Something that I have been struggling with as of late is making friends with people who are under 40. I am a person who is involved in a number of things in my community. I regularly go to church, I am active in the local political scene. I also attend concerts, theater and lecture events as well. B...

I can think of a handful of people that I have known that have killed themselves. My brother's best friend did it 25 years ago, my best friend's brother did it about 10 years ago. I have also had a couple of high school classmates that have taken their lives. Everyone other than the brother of my fr...

It is a snide way of a person telling you "I don't want to hear about it anymore." I never understand why people use the phrase "nobody cares", when it is just that person doesn't care about the subject at hand. Why don't people say "I don't care" instead?

I do read some on occasion. I love fiction that is set in the American Midwest. Some of my favorite authors include Marilynne Robinson, Garrison Keillor, Kent Haruf and Jane Smiley.

One thing that I am currently working on with my Asperger's is the fact that I have a tendency to ruminate and obsess over bad events that have happened in my life in the past. I have noticed that these ruminations and obsessions can go on for many years. They have usually been lessened by another n...

Are there any activists who have an autism or Asperger's diagnosis. I am not just meaning activists FOR autism issues, but activists in all areas of politics. This would include for example, environmental or economic activists. In my 20 year history of being involved in politics, I have run into ver...

Is it normal for someone who is having a psychotic episode to disappear from society? Is it also normal for someone having these issues to cut off all contact with their friends, including via phone, email and letter? What are the causes of this? Lastly, what would be the best way to contact a perso...

I am not sure if this conversation is germane to just schizophrenia, bipolar and other mental disorders. I was given a video recently of my late friend giving a talk at the church we both attended. He had a schizophrenia diagnosis, but also acted very autistic in nature (I know, positive/negative sy...

I have been running into an issue of meeting intellectual friends my own age, even though I am active in a number of activities in the community. This is one of the things that I am constantly told to do to meet people, but it hasn't worked out for me. I have a number of friends that are older than ...

Yes, there is an interesting story in how Hillary Clinton picked up on my late friend's story. I went back to college in my mid-30s a few years ago and got my BA in political science. While I was there I did a couple of internships in local Congressional offices. First of all, one of the Congressmen...

The negative symptoms of schizophrenia are similar to the symptoms of autism such as flat affect, poor communication skills, poor executive function or poor hygiene habits. Most people with autism do not experience the positive symptoms of schizophrenia such as hallucinations or delusions.

This is first time that I have been on this site in a few years. I feel like I cannot get over the loss of one of my closest friends to suicide a year and a half ago. We only knew each other for 2-3 years, but spent a lot of time with one another during that time. We were active in church together, ...

This is a timely thread, due to the fact that I was thinking about this today. The title of this thread is the story of my life. People are friendly to me in an acquaintance sort of way, but when it comes to being a deeper part of their lives, I never seem to get included. I rarely ever get invited ...

I have friended (or attempted to friend) people from my school days on Facebook many of times. What I usually do is just send them a friend request. If they accept fine, if they don't accept, fine. I am in my early 30's so I don't feel as connected to these people, and in some cases it can be a litt...
