Some theorize that autists are actually more empathically / emotionally attuned to other people, and that this is part of the difficulty for them in relating - like sensory sensitivity, but on the emotional level. This has always been my experience: even as a young girl, I was very attuned to the de...

As a person potentially meeting your son on the road driving toward my car and my children, I would respectfully ask that, if you think he is a danger on the road, you ensure that he does not receive a license until you are satisfied he's no longer a danger.

Realistically speaking, most women have until their mid-40s to bear children, so there is plenty of time to change your mind if you currently feel you don't want children. What I'm trying to say is: don't let anything pressure you into having children if you feel you don't want them now. You might c...

I always had difficulty with the standing-in-the-schoolyard thing, too. I have to say, most of the things the other mothers talk about bored me to death, anyway, when I did manage to join a small group talking together. I don't really "get" the average woman, I guess. So you may not be missing much ...

I am (or was) highly employable, as a programmer. I worked at IBM and at another (spinoff) company. But I couldn't manage full-time work and a family and staying above the melting point. Now I work as a translator, part time, from home, a freelancer who can say "yes" or "no" to any project, communic...

I stand corrected--Raven_Morris *was* saying "Thou Shalt Not."

Pokerface, absolutely. If you enjoy makeup, by all means, use it! I don't think any of us were trying to say "Thou Shalt Not"--we were just describing our relationship to makeup. I agree that makeup done well can turn a pretty person, or even a plain one, into a gorgeous one. I just don't myself lik...

I would have to admit I'm attracted to looks. Largely because it's hard to experience a woman's personality walking by her in the hall or seeing her across the room. We probably all have a physical type that's immediately attractive to us, but I've found that the initial "wow! He's sexy" can be tot...

Intelligent, good with words (good use of language), open and friendly, sense of humor I like, fascination with the same things that fascinate me. One of the sexiest men I've ever known was fat and balding, but so darn funny he was always a real pleasure to be with. I tend to become momentarily obse...

Oh, I think they're worth mentioning twice (at least the last two  )

When i get home i lurk on forums and play morrowind til 9:00 pm. On weekends I do nothing but lurk on forums and play video ga...

I hate small talk too, though I've learned how to "do" it. Sometimes I can actually enjoy it for a couple of minutes, but not if it happens too often or lasts too long. Last night we were at a get-together with several other adults and it started off fine, but after an hour or so I was just *longing...

I just saw an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (the one with D'Onofrio) that featured an Aspie. He was an insurance guy who ended up being responsible for this complex and elaborately patterned series of insurance fraud crimes that involved killing homeless people. I think the show did a good...

I agree with all the folks who've said it was "a lightbulb moment", "a turning point", "a real relief", and so on. I finally understood myself. There was a downside, thought it's more of a necessary stage than a real drawback to knowing. That was realizing that I'd spent most of my life (if not all ...
