God is one thing. There have been too many insights I've had into the way the world works - often truly paranormal - for me to stop believing in the idea of a Supreme Being. Religion is another. It is when groups of people in a particular community get together and say "this is what God is like" in ...

I'm used to jumping in feet first and posting on whatever topic to get myself noticed. I post on eBay forums (under the same screen-name) which have a higher turnover of topics and posts, so I may post too much. Also you can't edit posts on eBay so I tend to re-post rather than edit. But I think a r...

Cockroaches, ever since the summer at university that I got ill with tonsilitis and had nightmares of them crawling over me. (Ever see "www.fear.com"? I was almost ill during the scene where one of the victims is killed by bugs, once that scene was over I didn't mind the rest of the film). I used to...

I also feel the same way about sleeping with some sort of security object, like a cherished plush toy or some other well-loved thing one can easily cling to in bed. These things are signs that one needs comfort, and a way for them to get that comfort. Denying a person these things doesn't remove th...

Capital punishment... well, PJ O'Rourke said something like this: "A callous pragmatist would sanction both. A good Christian would sanction neither. But it takes a real idiot to be in favour of abortion and against the death penalty." Hmm... then I seem to be the calloused pragmatist. I am ...

Stop this all of you! You're making me regret not finishing my Pizza Express at lunchtime!! ! If I eat out properly (not just Burger King) I normally go for some kind of pizza, in the UK we have a number of real "Italian" style chains that aren't bad and better than Dominoes or Pizza Hut. There are ...

There's nothing wrong with being an atheist. It doesn't mean you're shallow, immoral, intellectually dishonest, or anything like that. As I said to Todd on another forum, the fact that he has thought about it enough to decide he is an atheist seems to indicate that he has at least thought about it,...

I have the same kind of on-off relationship with my mother, mainly due to the fact that she is the person I am most around or with during my "off" periods. The most fun I've had was when I didn't have to depend on her and we could get along like two adults. Long before I ever realised that there was...

I speak English (native) and Polish - I spent just over a year studying Polish in Poland itself. This is the phrase I use and has featured in a comic I wrote: (not quite funny, merely a non-sequitur when taken out of context) "Mowia, ze moge [wyjechac do domu], ale nie wiem kiedy. Minely dwa tygodni...

Never said it wasn't.

Crack, like the metaphor idea, but some things are just too - well - unrandom to be ascribe to that opinion. That said, thinking of Him as a person sitting on a cloud is the wrong image.

Nice one Thaggy. (sorry, hope you don't mind me calling you that). I feel a lot of kinship with you as a Christian who is closest to my own view of religion. Though "kill" vs "murder" still suggests the taking of life without the other person's consent. Abortion would come under this, I am pro-choic...

Crack - you're right, how old are they though? When I was young Christmas and birthdays were for that special thing that you couldn't really afford yourself but were treated to, therefore you made sure that you let your parents know well in advance. I suppose it's a bit rich if people are swapping l...

It took me a while to get into it - and to get up to speed (puzzles that are supposed to take 10 min took me most of an hour) - but I like it - as long as I'm able to relax with it. It's harder if I'm trying to fly the coop though.
