I'm 71 and NLD. I'm isolating because interaction with other people is......well, I'm finally concluding that it's just not worth the trouble and annoyance. A few friends, wife, family......that's it. Get togethers are rare. As far as mental capacity goes........the things you found difficult at 50 ...

I am amused by this attitude that he should want to "get better".........and "get better" means "be like everybody else."

I guess if you really think that "everybody else" is doing the right thing........that works.

Ponder that.

People tend to fear and shun what they don't understand.

And very few understand Autism.

It will hurt your income and people will treat you differently.

I support both of you.

When we're ready to go (for whatever reason) there should be a compassionate and painless way to go.

Seems there are a lot of societal norms that disagree, though.....I'm not sure why or how long it will take to overcome them.

Disregard that teacher and talk to a different one or an administrator until you get a proper response.

Some schools try to discourage labeling because it means more work for them.

I think forgiving is giving the person a second chance, but without trust.

Never forget.

Forgive once......judge by subsequent behavior.

I wonder why this thread died? I made a few posts years ago. I just came back and read the thread again and found it interesting and helpful. I'm 71 now. I was really lucky all my life and managed to find jobs, survive and have been happily retired since age 60. I was never cut out for this world an...

Thanks for the replies. The interesting thing to me is.......I initially TOLD the psychologists that I suspected I had Asperger. When the testing was done they said they said I definitely DID NOT have Asperger. They said my results clearly showed a diagnosis of NLD with a secondary diagnosis of ADD ...

I was diagnosed with NLD ten years ago at age 60.

Now I hear that this is no longer recognized. Does that mean my diagnosis was wrong?

Should I go back for another test?

WoodenHouse, I haven't read here for a long time and just happened to be passing by. I left a note on your blog. This is a time of great change for you, but you seem to be handling it well.

Best of luck.

There are three NLD groups on Facebook.

They are not real active, but neither is this thread.

Just sign up with Facebook and do the search.

Woodenhouse, your obsessions sure make you sound like you have Asperger.

Thanks again. I was born in 1946 and I personally had a high exposure to pesticides used on our farm (spraying milk cows -heavily- in a small and unventilated barn) for at least ten years. My mother had probably had a similar exposure during her youth and concurrently with me after I was born. I als...

Thanks again, GCS. I'm beginning to suspect that NLD is new enough that I probably won't find any person older than myself who has been diagnosed. That's logical, I guess. Research in that area will probably be lacking also. Guess I'll just have to be my own research project. So far, so good......I ...

Thanks, GCS. I'm also trying very hard (and with no success) to find some information on how NLD impacts older people like myself. I haven't found another person in their 60s on any forums, nor have I found any information on the potential for early dementia being caused by NLD. Anyone have any info...
