I've thought about lying on personality surveys but I am afraid if I lie on them, they will find out anyway after they hire me. But then they've hired you. If you're doing your job well then there's a cost associated with firing you and hiring/training someone else, so they're unlikely to bother. R...

Thanks everyone, Sorry that this reply has taken so long but things have been a bit busy for me lately, I do appreciate your advice. Kiran, I'm glad to hear you've settled well in Sweden, and I'd be interested to hear what help's available. Unemployment's a serious issue everywhere now. If I moved i...

Hello, I am a science graduate in the UK who has a little work experience and is fortunate enough to be currently employed in the area I want to work in, albeit on a short term contract. My field has attracted a lot of interest and funding in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Germany, and I am seriously ...

Where I live there is lots of help and growing hope. People don't seem to dislike me for having autism or others. They are really nice. You seem kind of depressed? Good for you. Have a nice life. In the real world where I live "autistic" and "aspergers" are bandied around as terms of abuse. If my w...

It doesn't get better. You are defective. Society doesn't want you or want to tolerate you. If it did then autism wouldn't be considered a mental disorder. No amount of self delusion, false hope or pity from others changes that fact. As a kid you might get some help and if you're lucky and learn to ...

I'd rather be alive and autistic, than an abortion statistic. :D How about normal due to prenatal drugging? That, if it's possible, is what Autism Speaks actually wants. I doubt you'd actually be able to tell who was going to be autistic and who was going to be broad autistic phenotype/ an unaffect...

The real problem is that most parents of teens with developmental disabilities don't want to address sexuality or how to act appropriately around the opposite sex. And the attitude that people with developmental disabilities shouldn't be having sex in the first place. Not to mention the lure of a q...

I don't think prenaltal testing will ever give a reliable indication of whether someone will be on the autistic spectrum and where on the spectrum they are likely to be. Environment/gene interactions are horrificly complex if not impossible to predict. Most of the mutations linked to autism are slig...

What worries me are the repurposed antipsychotics. These are powerful drugs that often have very bad side effects in adults, long term use of Risperadone can cause Parkinsons disease like symptoms, for instance. Are they safe for use in children? Looks like we're going to find out. These are things ...

LOL, this discussion reminds me of a study I read about quite a while ago, where women had to sniff t-shirts worn by males and rate them in order of preference. One of the t-shirts had been worn by a Chimpanzee, and some of the women ranked it highly!

Most people don't strike me as having much of a 'pheremonal' presence, and I suppose it's one of those chemistry things where we all have a pheremonal 'type' that we respond to more than others and for some people we don't respond at all. However, when that presence is there, WOW , do I notice. Som...
