It is very frustrating to have a child who lies to you, but I'm glad to hear that you took the time to figure out why he's doing it. My 15 year old daughter lies a lot about brushing her teeth, and we've talked to her about the consequences of poor dental hygiene and those of telling lies (and yes, ...

My darling Aspie 15 year old girl told her father the other day that a boy at school asked if she's had her first kiss yet. Our daughter asked how old she should be for her first kiss, and how old she should be for "making out". Wow. I would like to know how other parents handled discussing sex with...

Another approach is...go ahead and let him wear what he wants. I think by his age he has the right to make his own clothing choices, as long as he's not putting himself in physical danger (like wearing swim trunks in the snow) or breaking any laws (i.e. birthday suit). If he complains of being too h...

My daughter flaps her hands rapidly when she's trying to think of the right words to express herself, but she sits and rocks when she's anxious. Lately, she's also taken to singing while doing her homework...my husband and I love to listen to her sing :)

I only came on the scene in 2007 and I know that my stepdaughter was exhibiting daily rage, violent tantrums, almost total lack of control of her emotions, and was reporting auditory hallucinations. I'm assuming her doctor used that information to come to his conclusion. Her home situation was very ...

I think most of us parents feel your frustration. Especially with the baby being woken up, and you not getting enough sleep. Sleep is underrated...you can't be at your best when you're sleep-deprived. There are some excellent suggestions in this discussion! For my daughter, nothing seemed to give he...

My stepdaughter was misdiagnosed as schizophrenic until she was 12 years old, and mis-medicated as well. After her mother died, she really had a hard time, understandably, but the increase in violence landed her in the hospital 5 times in as many months. Her father and I finally, out of desperation ...

My 15 year old Autie daughter doesn't seem to grasp a lot of the social nuances yet. I have to remind her to say "thank you", especially if she's given a gift that doesn't totally bowl her over. She is saying please and thank you more often without prompting, though, and we're happy about that. Howe...

My 15 year old autie daughter, Amy, refuses to have anything to do with dancing. I've explained that it's fun and you don't have to be good at it, but she is determined not to learn, so I've stopped pursuing the subject. The other day, we had VH1 on the tv while doing housework and Amy had just woke...

I don't think there's a pat answer to this, as each child needs individual types of discipline. That should be as unique as the love you show for your child.

My 14 year old daughter got her first fish tank a year ago and has, of course, gone through many fish. The last time we aquired new fish from PetSmart, they "fish lady" told Amy that, as they sometimes don't know if the fish are male or female, we might take home pregnant fish. Amy was telling her f...
