Johnny Eck was in Freaks! He would be the right age, just as Angelo Rossitto was who was in Freaks and ran a newspaper stand through the 60s and 70s and was in all sorts of horror movies. "I'm just a little man... of no use to anyone". IMDB only lists four titles with Johnny Eck - Freaks and three ...

A lot of people my age remember the sequence, but none can recall which film it is! Serpico and Shaft have the kind of street scenes I associate with the memory, and I scanned through Dirty Harry / The Enforcer and several other 70s cop films without luck. The informant character with no legs was us...

It's called Mr. No Legs. Here's the link for your edification, as it were. Mr. No Legs That film looks absolutely perfect for my purpose, which is the portrayal of disability in film or other culture - the use of disabled actors is so rare! It is not the police action movie that I am trying to reca...

I remember the scenes very vividly from a 1970s police movie, probably based in New York. The main detective character gets information from an informant who has no lower limbs. The informant uses a skateboard, propelling himself with his knuckles. There is an acrobatic and fast-paced chase sequence...

I dunno how dumb this question is but if I had 500 dollars and a willingness to learn what would be the first thing to do to get into trading, I know 500 is not much Get yourself an online trading account somewhere like Ameritrade and put the 500 dollars in something with safe growth potential. Go ...

If anybody has any good solutions I want to hear them. The CIA, in partnership with SRD and under the In-Q-Tel heading, have developed online persona management software and protocols. There is some interesting reading if you are interested in creating compartmentalized identities, e.g. for work an...

I just want a day to day thing, I don't do much but browse the web, I am trying to get into programming though, I heard Linux is better for that or something. And Windows is feeling kinda old. I think that the most important thing for day-to-day working is to ensure that every file is in a non-prop...

I set this up last night, and everything works after some fiddles. Ubuntu 64-bit desktop is currently the only distribution that is fully compatible with pre-installed Windows 8, so I used that - compatible Fedora is due on 15 January 2013. It seems to be essential to permanently disable Windows Fas...

Why exactly does your daughter want to cling on to Windows? It is her first computer and she wants to hang on to everything that she paid for. And everyone else has Windows. I know dual boot is easy - or soon will be easy - so I am happy to comply. What exactly is making you think it will not work?...

I put Dolphin on my phone and it seems a little faster than the vendor browser. It also has better window management and a menu "quit" item, which is bizarrely missing in the vendor browser.

My daughter has bought a new laptop which ships with Windows 8 using UEFI and (I assume, because Microsoft requires it) Secure Boot. A laptop with pre-installed Windows 8 is the cheapest option. She wants to keep the Windows "just in case", but prefers Linux. The most credible advice that I have rea...

AoA's coverage of the November 29 US House Oversight and Government Reform committee hearing was not easy to read. I'm trying to find or make something that would work for a PC. I worked on some projects where we collected data on hospital wards. We used a hospital computer trolley that had an upright with two separately adjustable platforms, one for the display and one for the keyboard. The wheels had foot-loc...
