Okay, so, there was an incident today that triggered a panic attack. I was given a transcription to read that was due urgently (ie tomorrow). Usually, I'm okay with doing 100+ page transcripts, but for some reason, I just couldn't finish this one today. I was two pages away from completion when my s...

Well, I guess I'll ask the obvious question: have you tried medication? A little Xanax does wonders. One reason you may not have advanced to solo proofreading is that your employers can see how anxious you are. Getting a prescription from your therapist might help save your job. I've considered med...

Let me just got give some background first. I got a job last November in a legal transcription firm as a proofreader/court reporter, after three years of unsuccessful job hunting (not counting a library supervisor job, which I was fired from after four months and I covered in a separate thread). So ...

So, recently, I was hired for work at a legal transcription firm in a proofreader/court reporter role. I was hired through networking (a distant relative works there), and so far, the week of training has been going well...ish. There are still quite a few things I'm rusty on, but I also see where I ...

Lately, my job counselor has been placing a lot of emphasis on networking, and, specifically, on trying to land informational interviews. As if asking a total stranger for advice isn't hard enough, the only avenue for realistically doing so-- LinkedIn-- doesn't let you message people unless you are ...

So, I've been having an ongoing problem during the few times when my girlfriend and I have sex. Namely...I have trouble keeping it in. Understand, my girlfriend is a bit heftier than me (not that I mind), but when we do it, it's always a bit tricky to actually get it in. And even if I do get it in, ...

Does anyone know any place online where I can get help writing cover letters? I detest writing them, and always wind up being stumped on how to write effective ones.

As the title suggests, post your favourite monologues(s), from film, TV, books, theatre, or wherever. Here's one of my favourites, done by Doug Stamper on House of Cards: "I'm Doug, and I'm an alcoholic. One of the things I do for a living is count. I count votes. Yeas, nays, neutrals, abstaini...

Maybe it was intuition under pressure? What was it that attracted you to picking HR Management? What will to job actually entail that may have drawn you to it? Can you organise a mentor relationship arrangement with a supervisor when you just get into the field? I'm curious what led to the decision...

Hugs to you. Being fired is so dejecting especially if one loves the job. It's nothing to do with trying too hard or not trying hard enough. Managerial positions require more social finesse than technical finesse. And I think that's what killed me. I had no idea what was the "right" level...

So, I was fired last week. Back in January, I got what I felt was in many ways a dream job: a Sunday Supervisor contract position in a public library branch in a neighbouring township. I was elated, as this was the sort of job that I had been trying to get for 3 years. It felt like my efforts had fi...

Let me give you all a quick summary of whats going on in my head right now. 1. 3 years ago, I did a Master's Degree in Library and Information science, and figured that this was going to be my career of choice. 2. 3 years later, I still haven't found a job. My self-esteem has plummeted, I'm battling...

As the title above reads, which do you dislike more about job hunting: having to write a lengthy cover letter where you have to find inventive ways to pimp yourself/speak to the company's needs, or going through the hassle of looking up who to call at a company, working up the courage to make the ca...

I've been jobless for three years now, despite my best efforts. My life has devolved into a fugue state of mindless slackerism. Nothing excites or entices me any more, its all turned into one giant rolling ball of blah. I just don't know what to do any more. I feel like I've lost the ability to give...

a girlfriend of one year, unless she's tied down by commitments, should know you well enough by now to be willing to go with you. i had a friend in school who was engaged long-distance for four years before he and his fiancée could manage to live in the same city. they talked every day via an 800-n...

So, I have Masters degree in Information Studies (in other words, I'm a librarian) who has been searching for work for a little more than two years now. Recently, things are looking up: one of the academic libraries I recently applied to has emailed me back, and is curious about my ability to reloca...
