Recently our family got to beta test it before it came out. Fortunately for doing so, we got to keep the system that microsoft sent us. Anyway, my HFA daughter is the mistress of video games to begin with, but when it comes to the kinect, she blows all of us out of the water. I think it's interestin... |

Yes thank you for the hard numbers and scatter mention- this is the biggest part-- she scored unusually high one the perceptual reasoning skills, over 99 percentile on the visual reasoning. But when it came to her verbal scores, it was more like ten percentile (she's verbal herself, but grasps for v... |

I really don't have any suggestions other than if he can find some other thing to preoccupy his hands like a squeeze ball or rubix cube or something (and a talk with the school of course). But he's 11 also so he's probably going to have to want to do it, too. |

I don't find it that odd to be in hyper-researching mode, but it's something I enjoy doing anyway. I should have been a resource librarian (and you too, it sounds like haha!) I've done a good bit of research on my own child as well, originally to find out just what was "going on" and later to read u... |

So, I got the report in the mail today from the psychologist today and Im trying to understand the percentiles listed on her WISC IV results. I mean I know what a percentile *is* and what it means numerically, and the doctor listed what each range would mean in terms of what would be average, low av... |

I waited, fearing the same thing. It sounds paranoid in hindsight, but I didn't want the school system taking any diagnosis and "running away" with it or setting her in a particular path. Now in hindsight I can see that she would have benefited by a diagnosis about two years ago, which is when she s... |

book looks interesting, thanks. My daughter's psychologist recommended using social stories/writing them in order to show her what NT kids generally do in various situations. I'm interested to see what other parents have done regarding this sort of thing |

The AS criteria is really flawed. I thought it was quite common for people with AS to be delayed in self-help skills. I want to know what would constitute self help skills anyway. Sounds vague o.O eating, dressing, using the toilet, brushing teeth, hygiene, etc. the skills needed to take care of yo... |

asperger's also requires that there is no delayed speech, no delayed self help skills, and no cognitive delay. for classic autism, the onset must be before age 3 also, which is probably one reason asperger's gets diagnosed later on average. The AS criteria is really flawed. I thought it was quite c... |

That's pretty much my viewpoint on it, but I wonder why the psych is so insistent there's a dividing line. She specializes in ASD, so obviously works with a lot of children in the spectrum. Anyway, feh. I look forward to the school backing off of my kid in regards to group work in the near future (t... |

(drumroll a year later?) High Functioning Autism. I liked the psychologist who tested her, she was extremely thorough and looked at all sorts of factors including types of thought/mental processes, etc. The one thing that confused me a little is her insistence there's more of a measurable difference... |

My cousin has IMO alot of Aspie traits. As a mother she doesn't want to leave her kids alone and says she doesn't like people and doesn't want to make friends. Her life/world ARE HER CHILDREN! She doesn't trust anyone to watch her kids. She sees other parents who socialize as irresponsible. I was c... |

Eh. Both my girls kiss me on the lips, I don't see a big deal about it. My eldest did want to kiss me longer for a period of time when her father and I were divorcing, but I didn't worry much about it because of the circumstances at the time. He might just be boundary testing, but I don't see a huge... |

that really does sound odd. I'd question them extensively and not back down if you feel they're not putting in the time to learn more about your son. I've seen this happen with medical doctors and my family members, and one thing is for sure- not being assertive about this stuff can get you steamrol... |

Thx angelbear I am just going to back off now. All day at work I've been feeling like I just want to burst into tears, she is my world and when she was in that pain it was so hard for me to watch and not be able to do much about it. Thanks for the welcome. I just wish I'd have looked for a forum li... |
