Wandering or bolting is a serious problem and when you have a child on an IEP for whom this might be a concern, it is the school's responsibility to supervise that student. There are serious consequences when that responsibility is allowed to lapse. http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/21/justice/ny-avonte-re...

My gut reaction is that the teacher owes him an apology. What a horrible "game" to play with an ASD student in the classroom! That's kinda like playing Name That Tune when one of your students is deaf. I would ask that if the teacher ever decides to do that activity or any like it in the future that...

We all need to take time to fill our own buckets and when time is the one thing you have the least of, you have to be pretty choosy about how you spend it. If the support group isn't helping you out, then it may not be worth your time. Even 4 years into our diagnosis, I feel exhausted, overwhelmed a...

You are in the US, right? The teacher is way out of line suggesting that your DD should be sent to a special school. I have 2 acronyms that teacher needs to learn - ADA, Americans with Disabilities Act and FAPE Free and Appropriate Public Education. The teacher's comments and actions appear to be tr...

We have similar issue except that DS has never slept all night in his own bed with the exception of a few nights, like when he is sick and is just too exhausted to get out of his bed and into ours in the middle of the night. I was going to suggest a weighted blanket for your son. Hasn't been a magic...

cubedemon6073, I havent read this entire thread and I didn't read any of the thread you initially posted about because I cannot spare any emotional energy on crap like that. I just did want to say something. I personally recognize that your questions always seem to be in the spirit of trying to trul...

I'm just gonna throw this out there - my husband is a (recovering) alcoholic (and an aspie). When he was drinking I could not allow him to be alone with the children, it was a safety issue. I had to be sure that either I was available to pick them up or drive them to activities or I had to make arra...

It isn't his diagnosis that is holding me back...it's his seeming lack of interest. I feel like he would like these things if he started but don't want to force him into anything. I feel like a nudge might be a good idea but not sure how to go about that. The comment about Aspy children not always ...

We've tried quite a few things with a couple of successes and some massive FAILS. As it turns out, pretty much any organized team sport is not on my ASD kiddo's bucket list. He could not tolerate soccer practice (he was 5 at the time) because none of the kids would do what the coach was saying. We t...

If kiddo is ASD then it is probably a matter of him not knowing what to expect from Daddy and knowing TOTALLY what to expect from Mommy so Mommy is safe and Daddy is scary. I don't agree with AngelRho that this 32 month old child is trying to manipulate you. He IS trying to communicate to you, just ...

Thanks, that is some good feedback! and I walk back up the road practically retching with nerves and praying to whatever God it is I believe in to just please, please, PLEASE get him through the day. We did not qualify for the autism waiver but were accepted at our Child Development Center after they established an Autism Insurance Program. Last year DS (7.5 now) got 10-12 hours per week of services. This year we are more like 9 hours/wk. It has helped A LOT. In my experience, the success was ve...

DS is 7.5, HFA, in 2nd grade this year. We are at a new school and the special ed teacher is brand new. His classroom teacher is experienced and was previously a spec ed teacher herself so she has some skills (though she also seems to have an odd propensity to want DS to be a round peg). We are stil...
