If he has an IEP, I would put this back on them to figure out how THEY are going to support him. If he has been suspended, it would be appropriate for them to come up with a new behavior plan (Proactive strategies emphasized!) for this new behavior. |

http://www.additudemag.com/ has some great articles on marriage with ADHD. They do have a forum, but I've never checked it out before (I'm the one with ADHD...maybe I should give the info to my husband!). There's also http://www.addforums.com - I used to go there, but it had too much drama and not e... |

Those were just good resources that clearly explained the law. The IDEA is a national law, so they are applicable for all states. Some states have additional state laws about special education, but they can't change the basics of the actual IDEA. |

For an understandable overview of problem solving IEP issues, start on page 42 of this pdf: http://www.specialed.us/pl-07/SpEd_in_Plain_Language-07.pdf The IDEA allows parents extra time, if needed, to fully evaluate the IEP. So I wouldn't worry about their time line. 115.78(3)(d) The parents have a... |

I found some helpful suggestions here:http://micheleborba.com/blog/bully-proofing-strategies-for-kids/ Question it. “Why would you say that?” “Why would you want to tell me I am dumb or fat or whatever and hurt my feelings?” Send a strong “I Want” message.“ I want you to leave me alone” or “I want y... |

Some kids have a very low threshold for heat. Does heat bother him otherwise, like hot weather? Or is it just water? I'm not on the spectrum, but I do have some significant sensory processing issues. Being is a warm bath, hot shower, hot tub, is NOT my idea of fun. It makes me sweaty and uncomfortab... |

Try using a visual sequence prompt. Visual prompts are great because they can be used independently when no other adult is around. Here is one I've made: http://i.imgur.com/0BpJXwp.jpg?1 Also, how long are you waiting before you give a gestural prompt? He may need a little longer processing time. If... |

Does this happen all the time?
Is it brought on by stress?
What happens when you make yourself say it in your head only? |

Being a cashier was horrible for me b/c of ADD. It is very easy to accidentally hand back 2 $5 bills instead of 2 $1 dollar bills while you are trying to keep a conversation with the customer and multitasking other things as well. I ended up just triple counting everything. Yuck. |

Freeing your child from anxiety (can't remember the author at the moment!) is a fantastic book for parents to help them understand their child's anxiety and how to use cognitive-behavioral strategies to teach them to gain control over it with support from parents. |
