"hmmm, so you can get paid by just doing research?" Depends on how good the research is, and what the research is (basically, how it is funded). But usually not as a PhD, unless the research is not at a university or it is during a post doc. PhDs are usually overqualified for research assistantships...

tuning out and planning ahead when I can. I always have my ipod and in-ear earbuds on me and they come on handy for everyday spontaneous noises when I walk to school/downtown. I never get on public transportation without them. Even if my ipod is dead, the earbuds muffle the noise. In planning ahead....

I think empathy is weird. I can be very sympathetic, but I sometimes have a hard time responding to when people are expressing empathy (sometimes even sympathy) to me. I can also be very empathetic, but I usually have to be very cerebral about why a certain emotion is felt to understand it. Except i...

I know I was a difficult one. Apparently, I started screaming around the time I was born and didn't stop for about 4 months. And I wheezed and got ear infections.

I'm getting my PhD right now. One of the great about graduate school (besides research, of course) is the fact that most of the people in higher academia are socially awkward in some way and assumes that everyone else is, too. Not everyone is spectrum, but, in my experience, people are very acceptin...

I developed trichotillomania in middle school and mostly stopped pulling around the end of high school. That is, I don't have bald patched on my head anymore and I have my eyelashes/brows back, but, truthfully, I never stopped pulling from other places on my body. Some of the impulse to pull is caus...

When I monologue, I'm usually either processing something or there is something about the topic that has an emotional context to me (either positive or negative) but I have a hard time expressing/talking about the emotion, so I keep talking about the facts around it. Does that match your experience ...

Dots, that's very similar to how I feel. I know I monologue and it just feels weird and awkward when I say I relate to someone out loud. Have you met many others on the spectrum with an eating disorder? I have a hard time believing it is uncommon. Thank you for your advice to remember why I am there...

It is strange to me. If I wasn't clear, when I think I am expressing emotions or feelings, others in the group don't seem to think so or want more. I'm not a stranger to groups or therapy in general and I know it sucks and hurts sometimes, that's usually the only way I improve in my life. (and one o...

I'm sure this has been asked several times, but I am new and didn't want to sift... (forgive me) So, I was wondering if others have been in group therapy and how the experience has been. I am typically socially awkward (aren't we all), but I thought I did well with group therapy for depression, anxi...
