Echolalia is the repeating of certain words and phrases over and over again. As I said it is *not* what my DD is doing. Hers is just a constant monologue, and on the rare occasion DH takes her to the store and I stay home, the silence is deafening. I never had these kinds of issues with DS, who has ...

My 7 1/2 year old DD who by most appearances seems NT has talked 24/7 since she started babbling. She literally talks all day and all night. If you ask her to be quiet, she whispers. The doctors says she's "chatty". It's not echolalia, it's more of a 7 year filibuster about anything and everything. ...

Daisydiana - I would check to clarify what they meant. If they were referring to pushing your child into unnatural situations/relationships - run from those docs as fast as you can and ignore whatever they may have told you. As long as your child can handle the mall (maybe when it's quieter like ear...

I can't imagine not telling my son. As he's moved into middle school, it's allowed him to understand his own thought processes better, understand that he looks at things differently than others, and made him feel less "odd" and more "unique". It has made him open to learning coping skills to get him...

I have an NT daughter who only answered to "Barbie" for quite some time. She walked around with a tiara on her head and would only wear pink. Many adults don't know how to interact with kids, unfortunately the one that said hi to your daughter missed a chance at a moment of fun. Children experience ...

Nothing about wanting relationships is counter to an autie dx, it is the *ability* to develop and maintain those relationships that is the key.

I also have ptsd, I know how that territory feels.

Maybe you need a new therapist? Don't know how that works in the UK.

Imaginary friends are a normal stage of growth, most children have them.

Are you two related?

Can you homeschool? At least for a year or two, to get him rolling? If not, then make sure you are a "drop in" parent. I stopped by my son's school 2 days a week every week for a long long time. I could watch him at recess, see if he was being bullied and if anyone helped him. I could look into his ...

Our son was dx'd at 10. He was suspicious of the whole thing from the gitgo, as he never goes to the dr to begin with (very healthy) but certainly not what he called the "yacky doc". Once we got the dx we told him. I'd printed off some very positive info off the internet and told him he could read i...

Teenagers are a tough crowd to begin with - and believe me I've cornered the market on guilt! I've been on several sites where polls were done about the childbirth of the child with AS, and it was all across the board from snoringly normal to high risk full fanfare. No one knows. My DS was dx'd at a...

Most of the time when my son suddenly changes his behavior, it's something he's picked up somewhere else - either from a friend, a book, or tv. It is your house and you have the right to set the rules. I imagine he'd feel a bit different about his decision were someone to pop over unannounced for a ...

Yes, you will feel tired (an effect not originally discussed). Sexual activity is physical activity, whether done alone or with another. It is an expenditure of energy. But like any other expenditure of energy, your body simply regroups, and whether you begin this activity at 5, 15, or 50, makes no ...

Actually if you read the posts here, and go back to old threads in the parent's forum, you'll find that dysgraphia is quite common in folks with ASD's. Especially Aspergers. Unfortunately many children also fail to get proper diagnoses, and parents and educators push them to do better when they are ...

The bit that confuses me is that my hands and arms aren't weak. I fire steam locomotives, operate canal locks, and can open jars and bottles which the womenfolk say are far too tight. It's just writing (and to a lesser extent, typing) which hurts. I think that's because it's the only activity which...

There is no such published information. Not in any peer review or scientific journal.

Sounds more like something coming from a pulpit.

Just make sure he doesn't initiate masturbation before puberty. If he exhaust all his hormones and neurotransmitters he will become underdeveloped in puberty and prematurely impotent. School medicine say there is no such thing as overmasturbation. That's wrong. Lazy kids are overmasturbation victim...
