I tend to overexplain things, especially if they tie into my field of study because I feel like I have to explain the theoretical / academic research pinnings behind it and how those influence my thought. I also sometimes need to think in specifics where I will answer using a specific example and th...

It might be bad if they think it's harrassment. I've been obsessed with people but just famous people and it's more fact-collecting about that person or reading their work if they're authors. You might try asking a friend who doesn't mind guiding you through social situations where your boundaries w...

Do you have an Alterantive / Augmentive Communication Device? That might help get your thoughts out. I hope your mother realized that you were trying to connect verbally even if the content wasn't exactly what she was looking for initially. That's nice she responded "What is your cat doing?" I wonde...

I was the same way and was really into what I w...

Crazy ducks once at MSU. They were all in a lake and I went to eat lunch with a friend on the benches. The ducks swarmed at us and one nipped my pant leg. and A sea scallop in a touch-pool at an aquarium. A girl was holding it and I I went to touch it and it closed - squirting her and my finger almo...

I don't think any of us should feel bad or odd about being single though. It's enough to handle getting through every day life, holding down a job, taking care of kids/parents/pets and managing the special challenges we face. We are also extremely self reliant and resourceful due to out lifestyle i...

Seems like your mom is very harsh. I am sorry. My mother was like that also. Do you have someone else - like a good neighbor friend or older mentor you could go to? They might be able to help you with the job search like with networking and stuff? Also, does your mother know you are on the spectrum?...

I was told by three friends that I might be on the spectrum. They did this because they cared for me and they had watched my social challenges and wanted me to have answers as to why I was having them. It was a shock. Was I mad? A little bit. But then I realized what they said made sense. Even when ...

I will preface this with a caveat: I will probably take the Lone Spectrumite route (aka not pursue a romantic relationship unless God changes my mind). But from a Human Development and Family Studies and parent-child, spouse-spouse attachment perspective, I think it is insensitive for NT people to n...

You could do consulting - like get connections online or with people you know to do their hard math for them AND edit. I could envision you cranking out numbers for some very complicated accounting report and then helping edit that report after the accountants interpret your findings.

My dream job(s) would be: 1. Professor at a university - specifically CSU, and I would study Emotional Availability (EA) and attachment in atypical populations. 2. I'd then like to do consulting part-time which would include grant-writing and going to different places to train direct-care staff in E...

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only spectrumite that bounces when she gets excited!! ! I do that too!! Recently I've discovered that shaking my head feels good. I also rock, but try to keep that to a minimum around others. I also wring my hands either when I'm happy or upset.

I didn't, but that's because I'm not into celebrity stuff. Glad that I'm finally in a place where a lot of people don't get the hype!! ! :D I asked my NT friend why the wedding was such a giant deal, and she really didn't know even though she slept through her alarm that was supposed to go off to wa...

No matter if you celebrate this holiday or not, what makes you feel most alive or what re-kindles your hope when you're down? It's just nice ...
