Mama to Grace - It's been forever since I've been here, for some reason I felt the need to check in and now I think I know why. I don't know where to start, so I don't write a novel, cause I don't have time for that right now. For the moment, let me just say; Always saw huge similarities between ds ... |

My son is 14 and on a mat on my bedroom floor. It is anxiety based. Staying with him in his room until he fell asleep didn't work, and didn't get better after literally years of trying. After too much broken sleep for me - we basically gave up and lat him on our floor. However, in the past year, hi... |

Hi cubedmon6073 a The HHDL (his holiness the Dalai Lama) is one of my very favorite people on the planet. I have heard him speak in person, and hope to again. There are a couple of things to remember when reading the Dalai Lama.... 1: English is not his native language, so not what any of the explan... |

I like this question... First my 18 year old NT college student still loves pokemon, and tells me that there are other kids at school who do too. My 13 year old ASD son is a brony, who loves My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. Anyone who knows anything about bronies would know that it isn't only for... |

I loved the movie. I think there is a larger point in that the supporting characters who did not have Asperger's were perhaps even more dysfunctional and more of emotional wrecks than the man with Asperger's. They just didn't have a declared diagnosis. It is implied that there was alcoholism and ma... |

Thanks for all your feedback and suggestions. I didn't respond to everyone but I appreciate what was said. The meltdowns lately are usually over 2 things: 1) Homework 2) Encopresis The homework issue, his teacher seems to think he's being avoidant lately. It could be due to the increase of work loa... |

A speech therapist works on every aspect of communication. Some will develop plans about how to communicate when your child won't speak. I found that a good speech therapist "got" my son better than any of the team assigned to him. Just talk with the therapist and be sure you have the same goals, an... |

Just wanted to say that your son will be so much better off that you figured it out so early on. For those who have had successful placements, that's great. BUT, for those of us who have had poor placements, theyre literally traumatizing to all involved. I pulled my son from school at the end of fif... |

At 8 & 11, it's ok to just say no sometimes. We aren't doing them any favors by keeping them entertained all the time. I am guilty of this and regret it. It's fine to say, "I don't feel well, we're not going out." As a matter of fact, its ok to say that when you're well, but just don't feel like... |

Rapidroy's post brings one issue to mind.... Sometimes having the cheap alternative laying around can give you the opposite results. Because they don't feel right, or sound right, they can turn a kid off of them. For instance, we bought DS a cheapo drum kit when he was four. For the longest time he ... |

Also, why are you people so obsessed with taking your children's obsessions away from them in favor of forcible socializing? I want to forbid you from socializing and make you learn programming (or get some intense interests) instead as that would probably do a lot more good in your life than socia... |

We have lots if insruments, and make them available for "noodling". Just playing around. My son likes to look up you tube videos of how to play favorite songs, and learn them. He doesn't like lessons and practicing. He liked the drums (so we bought a traditional and electric kit), however I find tha... |

Funny you ask momsparky, I just bought the documentary this afternoon so DS and I can show DH. DH is a little freaked out by MLP and thinks that it will be pedophiles at the gatherings. I told him that it would be a pretty stupid place for a pedophile to go since the average age is probably 20... He... |

this is really, really hard. My 13 year old has this problem and there is no easy answer. We have a little glimmer of hope though... We joined a meetup group, comprised of folks who are different. The group revolves around the show, My Little Pony, Frendship is Magic. Surprisingly, there is a whole ... |
