Star Wars fan, are you? I confess, when you first joined, I was a little wary; "what is he promoting and why?" But I've figured out you are just really excited to have found your way with your child, and why shouldn't you be? You're a dedicated father with an adorable son. We all have to find our o...

That is awesome. Thanks for sharing the video. I am so happy to see a man working so hard for his child. Your dedication to him is a gift. Keep it up. BJ- This is going to sound strange. I was not always like this. I was the biggest skeptic and nay sayer you could ever know. I got mad at my parents...

Caitlin- The Son-Rise Program has specific curriculum for high functioning Aspergers. When I went to the Start-Up program I described in my blog, we initially all started in the same room. Then the facilitators split us up into 2 groups 1. non-verbal/emerging verbal and 2. highly verbal/aspergers/PD...

Thanks for the reminder. I have been struggling with not being able to take care of myself. The past 2 years have been H eee double EL in my household and I have completely neglected myself. It was taking over an hour to leave the house in the morning - and I mean from the time we are all ready, st...

Azurecrayon expressed how I feel exactly. I ADORE my son, and wouldn't want him to change, but I am concerned about how he will make it in the world, since so many in this world are so selfish and unkind. My son is only 5 yrs old, and I am already noticing children his age give him strange looks. I...

This is for all of you parents with small children on the Spectrum that are having a hard time getting the regular exercise you need. I was going to post this link in the Health and Fitness section, but thought it would be more appropriate in the Parent's Discussion. (Please note: I do not work for ...

CTBill- No need to duck out...I'm not judging anyone's response. The mere fact that you know you can function independently is a testament to the hard work you and your family put in. This may sound tangential but your resposne reminds me of my favorite line from one of my favorite songs Just Wait b...

I kind of wish my parents would press the button. It'd be easier for them, and for me. Wow. I was looking at this solely from a parent's perspective. So to see responses from people on the Spectrum is really eye opening. I guess the real question behind the whole Magic Button scenario is....Are you...

You don't know how inspiring it is to hear that. Thanks! My dream is that my son will be able to type what you wrote when he is older.

DW- you literally typed word for word what my reply was going to be. Marcia- looking at what you've been through...I love your attitude. I also feel like my son is the biggest gift ever. I wasn't looking for a right or wrong answer, nor was I going to pass judgement on anyone that said YES. I'll be ...

The Magic Button I remember watching a twilight zone episode where a man showed up at a person's door with a box. In the box was a button that would award the person a million dollars if it was pushed. The only string attached was that a person you don't know will die if the button is pushed.  This ...
