15% of U.S. women send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day

That's just sad.

Sophist, thanks for the aphasia information. You're right about it most commonly being linked to strokes. Anytime I have looked for imformation on aphasia, all I can find is how it is related to stroke victims. And although Sam did have a mild stroke around the time of his birth (not sure exactly wh...

I always suspected my son was above-average. New here's the proof

It's the same with Sam. If you get near his ears...watch out! And forget about even having an electric razor anywhere near him (or a blender, vacuum, lawnmower...you know what I mean). The sound of electrical appliances sends him into orbit. He has recently allowed his teacher to snip his hair a lit...

ster, when your son was on Paxil, did you notice any change in his sleep pattern? I'm supposed to up Sam's dose this weekend, but I've already noticed that he's getting up earlier (and perkier) in the mornings. It used to be a battle to drag him out of bed, but this past week he's been like a jack-i...

As a Simpsons fan, I find your fact about Homer's email address humorous and interesting. :D

renaeden, not wanting to answer the phone makes perfect sense to me. It drives my family and friends insane because I rarely answer the phone. Sometimes I don't feel like talking or I'm in the middle of something and I don't want to be distracted. That's why I love email. Yes, I thought Sam's playin...

I found some good info for how to prepare for an ARD at www.ldonline.org .
It's a website with lots of advice on dealing with learning disabilities.

Hope things go well with the IEP.

Hi! I'm new here as well. My son will be 7 in April. He was diagnosed HFA last month. Like you, I also had suspected for a long time that there was something else going on with him (besides his cerebral palsy.) I don't know why the schools are so quick to dismiss parents. I always had the impression...

I can see how always changing schools would be really difficult, and I won't do that unless I see no other option. I think moving to a new school would be really traumatic for my son. He seems to have a really good comfort level rignt now with his teacher and classmates. I feel fortunate that the ai...

I didn't know that aphasia is linked to ASDs. I'm glad you pointed that out because I've often wondered how the CP could affect his speech when he doesn't appear to have any facial paralysis. The hemiplegia is only obvious in his left arm and leg. I live in south Texas, and my son's dr. just moved h...

I had my informal meeting with the powers that be at my son's school yesterday to compare their evaluation with the doc's. Luckily, I had his teacher on my side because the ruffled feathers in the room were pretty obvious with each person politely reminding the other how much experience they had. Of...

BeeBee, your description of your son so reminds me of a student I had back when I taught high school. He was the only student I had whose IEP listed him as being gifted and talented, and yet still qualifying for special ed. services. I remember that he could just dazzle others with his brilliance, b...

Honestly, the name the doc chooses to label what my son does and how he behaves isn't really the point. I just want to learn all I can to do help make his life less stressful and hopefully give him a chance at being independent. I also very strongly disagree with Laz. Something in our discussion mus...

That's just what I was thinking. This a very rural area and a very small school district. I know that they have worked with autistic kids before, but their experience and qualifications are nowhere near those of the doctor who did the diagosis. When I sent the school a copy of the doc's evaluation, ...
