Thanks for your thoughts, Pollyfinite Writing may hurt him, and he may not notice it hurting him other than it's uncomfortable, so you might want to ask if it hurts, and where, and have him to exercises involving those muscles. That's a really good reminder for me to ask him, and to work on his post...

From my personal experience, if he has dysgraphia, nothing will help much. I have it and no amount of coaching, practicing, punishment, or praise made any difference. Luckily it is legible, but it doesn't look nice. My hand writing looks the same as it did 10 years ago in the 4th grade. I suppose t...

One more thing - maybe he can draw faint grids for math, or write on graph paper, and try to write one number per box to avoid misaligned number problems. I myself have wasted a lot of time due to incorrectly lining up numbers. Yes, he's using graph paper. I'm also going to look into accommodations...

Don't know if it would be useful for this particular child but one thing I have done is use calligraphy with a chisel felt tip pen. My middle son fell in love with it and was actually eager to use it. That is a great idea! I am collecting some different writing implements for him to try out. I've h...

Hm. Do his hands shake? (I guess in technical parlance, does he have dyspraxia?)" thanks for the reply. I should have said in the first post that his fine motor skills otherwise are pretty good -- he's not a Lego person, but enjoys assembling detailed models of various sorts (military vehicles, etc...

I have been asked to help a 10 year old Aspie improve his handwriting, which is nearly illegible. Also, math is his favorite school subject, but his difficulty forming and lining up numbers is getting in the way. His handwriting curriculum in kindergarten - 4th grade was Handwriting Without Tears. Y...

In the last couple of months, marketing for "Brain Balance Achievement Centers" has increased a great deal. What parents (or adults with autism) should know -- the short form: 1. Melillo is a chiropractor without any actual training / education in neurology outside of chiropractic schools 2. His the...

Here's a really simple questions for NT's. A while ago whist at a relatives birthday party, a girl (don't worry, she wasn't related to me!) gave me her number. Does this mean she wanted some kind of a relationship, or is it just something people do when they meet new people? As an older NT woman, I...

Thanks for letting me join this community. I am a neurotypical woman of ... well my age is my own business, eh? Suffice it to say that I'm old enough to have grandchildren. I work with children in kindergarten through 5th grade who are struggling in school. Some of those are somewhere on the spectru...

I feel horrible and stupid. I've lost $27K to an internet scammer who gained my trust over a period of a couple years. I worked hard to save that money, and I can't even begin to convey the despair I'm feeling right now. I feel like killing myself. I keep telling myself that I'm lucky because I cou...
