One of my all time pet hates is the hanging around saying goodbye on doorsteps . On my own I would simply give appropriate time over to announcing my departure and then simply carry it out dispite endless chittering on the doorstep. For me this is rudeness, when someone gases on endlessly as I am bu...

Hi kmarie57 When I was diagnosed ten years or so ago, I just couldn't understand how I could be empathicly challenged. It took me many years to understand that I wasn't. I show empathy like I show all my feelings, rather unusually and in a rather idiosyncratic way. If I do not wish to show my unusua...

Does your inability to show non verbally your emotional responses and feelings cause difficulties in your relationships? Do others see you as self contained, when in fact you have been articulating intellectually your suffering but others didn't get it because of your struggle to put on the outside ...

I intuitively sense that the more 'high functioning' a person is in the autism spectrum, the greater the likelihood and capacity there will be to be concerned what others think.

I'm with Temple Grandin on this one: “What would happen if the autism gene was eliminated from the gene pool? You would have a bunch of people standing around in a cave, chatting and socializing and not getting anything done.” ― Temple Grandin, The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism & Aspe...

I find it dull and completely void of imagination that one would identify with their intellectual capacities over their intuitive nature. Speaking for myself, nothing inside me, intuitive or intellectual, drives me towards a feeling that there's any higher purpose behind autism. If I were more pron...

Hi Billy I was diagnosed ten years ago at the age of 40. It's been a very long and arduous journey for me.integrating this deep understanding of myself has been very complex. It makes perfect sense to me that everything has a purpose. Yet how this all gets played out is beyond my thinking minds ability. I find it dull and completely void of imagination that one would identify with their intellectual capacities over their intuitive nature. As Einstein (who many believe wa...

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I love it when people in the public eye come out and talk about being in the spectrum. I love it because it demonstrates in the most powerful way how diverse the spectrum is. Soon, perhaps in a decade or so, we (those of us who are high functioning) will no longer...

LD The answer to many of your questions could simply be that the spectrum is as wide as it is deep. Many of us in the spectrum find this difficult to grasp. We simply like "us and them," or "in and out" models. The deeper reality, like everything else lies in varying shades of gr...

It is quite feasible and to some extent even logical, that many in the high functioning end of the spectrum would be economical with the truth in an assessment.
