Perfumes, no matter how expensive or supposedly good, all smell like some putrid chemical mix to me, most flowers too. For years I just thought people were crazy liking those smells or perhaps it was an "acquired taste" type of thing.

I was diagnosed when I was 38, it helped me a lot to make sense of things and to finally understand why I acted the way I did. Its probably different for girls in this culture anyway. Looking people in the eyes is a big thing in American male culture. "real men look each other in the eye when they s...

Oh I have eye contact, it just makes people uncomfortable I apparently do it wrong somehow and creep people out. I believe it was because it was always forced eye contact, I was forcing eye contact because I got tired of being told that I seemed "shifty". My wife says when I force eye contact it fee...

I have another question if any of you care to answer it, I can't go to appointments alone I'm a grown man I'm married with 3 children and my wife practically has to hold my hand to go visit the doctor. My wife jokes with me that I don't need to be afraid of her because she is sure I could kick my do...

"I'd say in my anger, I felt very much like an animal ready to strike back without a second of delay in case it got attacked just once more." This. That is almost precisely it, in high school I got into many many fights it is one of the things that probably kept me from learning I was autistic unti...

Hmm I learned the word aspie from these boards I thought it was a preferred term if some people find it offensive I will have to try to stop using it. I have classic autism so i'm not an "aspie" I have been called an "autie" though and I don't find it offensive, is there any reason I should? Oh, but...

I thought I had the meltdown problem beaten out of me as a child, as an adult I have learned that my "meltdowns" simply took a more self destructive route. In high school I must have gotten into more than a dozen violent altercations that I didn't realize until much later in life, after I was diagno...

I'm not aspie I was diagnosed last year with classic autism I have a few more issues than the average aspie ( I think) but I have a question and was wondering if its normal for other autistics, or if its just me. I have the normal eye contact issues that most aspie and autistics have meaning I don;t...

"Something about the idea of a disconnect between the two hemispheres of the brain just sounds right to me. I'm not a doctor, but I've got a solid background in science and I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea. I would not, however, be handing over any cash for any of these so-called therapies...

Again I am not saying it should not be looked into, neither of those studies however are all that good. Single blind studies allow a large bias, on top of that half the participants dropped out, somehow I doubt it was the half that was seeing a large benefit. But lets grant that they were superb stu...

How about some links to those studies? Even if the studies say what you think they do. it wouldn't be sufficient evidence to warrant making major dietary changes. One or two studies, even if done right, should not be the basis for making medical decisions. Science does not work that way. I read the ...

Before you put your child through something as stressful as a gluten casein free diet do some research, and beware of pseudoscience. Heres a link to a review of the evidence by actual doctors and scientists. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/125/Supplement_1/S1 Heres a link that...

As I understand it, this diet will only help if you actually have a specific condition that requires the diet. . Making large life decisions based on opinion polls or other peoples anecdotal evidence is silly and can quite often be harmful. Find a good doctor, be careful with this, because a surpris...
