Sorry, that you have to deal with that. My mother also outright refuses to accept that I have Asperger's, since I'm not a drooling on myself moron. I believe her refusal is largely because then she would have to accept that she was a terrible parent (which she was, there were abuse and neglect issue...

I agree - disclosing without his permission was very disrespectful and inappropriate. Since it has already occurred though, the best thing to do is to evaluate what happens next. You can't retrieve information that has already been given. Which is why I asked what he expects the outcome to be. If he...

So my NT wife felt it necessary to tell her cousin about my Undiagnosed AS. Why her cousin was concerned about me I don’t know. So when my wife tells me this I thought OK she told her cousin. Then it hit me I said “you told her not to tell any one right!” My wife stood silent I said “We decided we ...

I just don't see the point in why this is even an argument. I think that NT's are looking for encouragement or appreciation of some sort when talking or cracking jokes, and a smile or a laugh is their cue that they are appreciated or able to feel comfortable... which to Aspies it usually is unnotic...

My feelings on acting are mixed. Yes, I realize it is sometimes socially necessary to blend in by displaying an emotion you are not experiencing, or altering your display so it can be understood by NTs. Unfortunately they outnumber us and we must sometimes conform to their world. That doesn't make i...

I moved out 2 weeks past my 16th birthday. My family moved away and I chose to rent a room and stay behind. My family was abusive at worst, neglectful at best and I saw no reason to stay with them. I was supported by forwarded child support for a while until I got a job. Financial independence has b...

I seldom get along well with people my own age. I've always found them to be more petty and judgmental than other age groups. I sometimes am around much younger people (children) who are accepting because they're taught to be accepting of adults. This was not always true when I was growing up, altho...

It's unfortunate, but if your friend is a minor perhaps you should speak to his mother/parent. Finding it funny is not the appropriate response and it doesn't sound like he is going to come to an appropriate reaction without intervention. Whether you want the item returned or not your friend would b...

I usually have a small place I feel safe. Under extreme circumstances it can literally be a closet or other tiny location, but for day-to-day usage I make myself a comfort area anywhere at home with my computer. Somewhere silent except for a fan or air purifier for white noise, relatively dark and c...

Does anyone know a good place to figure out career suggestions, or have any to offer? Most things I'm interested in either require social capabilities I'll never have or pay so little it wouldn't be worth the education necessary to get the job - and even if it was, it wouldn't pay enough to live on....

Well the unwritten rule I break all the time is that people are supposed to smile when greeting each other and during small talk. I don't do small talk and I am usually not happy meeting people so I won't smile just because people think I ought to. Also, the last thing I want is someone hitting on ...

I have Asperger's and my husband is an NT. We've been married 6 years now, together 8. We met when I was 19. It's nice seeing so much of what has been common to our relationship represented here. I was only diagnosed this year, after reading about Asperger's and recognizing myself. I found an autism...
