And THIS is why I tapped out of the conversation. You didn't diagnose anyone, as mental illness diagnoses require interaction with the patient, and (last I checked) they are dead. This topic does not seem to be able to be discussed rationally in any forum. I disagree with you... THAT is my RIGHT. Y...

I am glad to see that things are changing with circuses, at least. Here in Brazil we also have many circuses who advertise themselves as being animal-free. Granted, the situation is still far from ideal (an advice: do not search for "worst zoo in the world" on Google; the results are depre...

I keep my cats indoors. For a few reasons. It's too cold for them in winter, there are too many diseased feral cats in the area and traffic is heavy. They will live healthier lives staying inside. Plus I don't think it's responsible to let your pet mess on other's property. You are right, I forget ...

Then you are fooling only yourself. Set your kitties free ! ! ! Stop sheltering them, and feeding them. They deserve to run free with the wild kitties. You hypocrite ! ! ! As I said before, they are free to go. They spend the entire day outside with free access to the rooftops and, by extension, th...

Yes, if you keep any pets OF ANY SORT, you are a bloody hypocrite. Agreed. But I still draw the line at pets living in cages or aquariums. Or any business selling pets, which not only is terrible from an ethics POV, but is also completely unnecessary, considering how there are already millions of c...

Well then, if THAT'S the you feel. NO ANIMALS IN ZOOS. It's cruel to remove them from their natural surroundings. If they go extinct, then at least they did so in their own environment, without SUFFERING the cruelty of being imprisoned in horrible, nasty ZOOS ! ! ! ! ! ! Although you are trying to ...

I think most countries consider it assault regardless of who hits whom. Maybe men get a heavier sentence, although I am not sure. It would make sense, since men tend to be stronger than women. Anyway, the reason why it seems to be okay is because of an amusingly ironic consequence of male dominated ...

And again... I disagree with you. Having an opinion that runs counter to definitions, does not change the definitions. We know what normal function is... There are tests for every aspect of normal function. If it can be diagnosed, it is a disease. But I am tapping out of this conversation... I have...

I posit that the definitions of individual diseases change as our understanding of the diseases grow. That, however, does not change the basic definition of the word disease. Which does not change the fact that the basic definition is too broad and subject to different interpretations depending on ...

I disagree with this statement 100%. It is something that has already been defined... well defined, studied and clearly explained. Considering this entire discussion and the fact that normal functioning is a highly subjective concept that changes every decade or so (so much that homosexuality was c...

Most dictionaries seem to define diseases as something that impairs normal functioning. By that definition, autism could be considered a disease. However, autism is arguably a different kind of "wiring" in the brain. If that is the case, it could be considered normal functioning, but of a ...

Effectivly this and the other example just as easily work as challenges to find a context without logical fallacy. Which dosn't appear to have anything in common with the ToM concept. Maybe logic is related to ToM? I have had people getting upset at me for steering conversations to apparently unrel...

my family was poor, my grandparents were poor. all of us were provided for, you only need food and shelter to provide for kids, they don't need all those expensive toys, gadgets and fancy schools. I'd guess most kids come from poor families rich people tend to bee busy spending their money on expen...

At first, it did not make sense (I have never heard of the RNLI and, although I know Birmingham is a city, the reply looked like a non sequitur). After about 40 seconds, I started to think that the passerby was trying to say that they did not need the RNLI services (by then I had already deduced wha...

I got it immediately, but if I were in the man's shoes, I would ask "Why?" instead.
