My main goal for my daughter for the school year was to make a friend. She's 9 years old and is painfully shy. We've talked a lot about what a sleepover enatails and she is asking 2 little girl friends over next weekend. I think it will go well.

I think you came up with the ideal solution. We have had a lot of success with birthday parties that revolved around specific activities. Since your daunted is so active, that may be something to consider in the future. Larger groups of children are more tolerable when they have something to occupy ...

I am here too. I don't consider myself witty, but I am eating corn-on-the-cob with one hand and typing with the other, so all is not lost.

I would say that there are at least two separate cultures with regards to ASD. The neurodiversity movement reminds me of what I learned about Deaf pride in ASL class. On the one side, there are people who say the "disabled" are fine the way they are and they should be proud of their differences. On ...

Band Geeks-- I was really into clarinet at the time.

I stopped playing after a year of college and while I currently wear a lot of labels, that's no longer one of them.

I have always stayed up late (since infancy, according to my parents). I think my sleep cycle is set forward because I sleep best in the late morning and I get the 3:00 slump that people talk about well after 6:00 P.M. If I go to sleep around 4:00 A.M. and sleep until 10:00, I feel the most rested. ...

I voted that yes, it would be rude to ask for a volunteer for your son. If he needs extra help, you should be there with him, or hire your own outside help to be there with him during VBS. As his mother, you know him best, so it only makes sense that you are the one to stay with him while someone el...

People make fun of me for being so clueless when it comes to pop culture. I like music, but I have no idea what the singers look like. I just don't care. As for tabloid drama, why would someone be that interested in someone they don't even know? I think that's a lot more strange than not caring.

When you look at your results, find the "T-scores." 50 means average, but a range of 40-60 in any given area is "normal range." scores typically fall on a bell curve for a given population, so the 50 represents the median score. If you have a T-score of 30 in schizo- or an 80 in paranoia, that would...

You said it much better than I did and I completely agree. My last therapist yelled at me and said that I was narcissistic when I didn't agree with his diagnosis. This is after he said he had no experience with AS in women. He asked why I wasn't dx with AS in early childhood when I was being tested ...

As a parent here in the US, you have the right to ask for an "appropriate" education, not necessarily the best one. We recently found out that that notion can vary from district to district. Out last one was highly inclusive. If there were no extreme academic or behavioral issues, the child would au...

There are definitely a lot of things to consider and it may be tricky since he's not just going to come out and tell you why he's doing it. Is there something new that triggered the growling? He seems to have found his voice, but is there something he is mimicking, such as a favorite animal? How doe...

If you are a spacial thinker (maybe an S in your Jung personality type, such as ISTJ), do you think that part of the issue might be that you're obsessed with the idea of sex, as opposed to being addcted to sex? If your brain is putting so much energy into an intangible idea, maybe it keeps wrapping ...

That's the test my psychologist used to decide I was Schizotypal. I scored highest on Authority Problems (T 84), followed by Antisocial Behavior (T 81), Introversion (T 79), Self-Doubt (T 75), Low Positive Emotions (T 74), Social Discomfort (T 72), and continuing on from there. Some of the things th...

I think that would depend on whether you mean the number of people who are diagnosed, or the number of people with a certain sub-type as a whole. If it's the first, I would guess classic autism, since those people are more likely to be seen as having a need or delay in some area at a young age. If y...

I do not like going to the doctors or dentist. Most recently, add misguided psychologists to the queue. I do not like the sounds, the smells, or the instruments. I do not like being in a little room in a reclining chair or on a table. I do not feel secure in that environment. I especially do not lik...
