I've bumped into two strains of docs diagnosing AS in people. The new PDD diagnosis covers a lot of ADD / Behavior problems with a focus on the severity of the AS. If a person can function in day-to-day life, then they don't have AS. Classical AS seems to hinge on the "little professors" description...

Not wisdom, fluid intelligence could be called the ability to "imagine cause and effect". Wisdom would be the ability equally measure outcome against cost - as in Solomon and splitting the baby. Both types of intelligence deal with cause and effect. But fluid intelligence is not dependent on experie...

f**k society. If people can't live with such a simple truth as "I have Asperger's" then they have a problem. lol! Which is exactly the attitude that causes people with ASD so many problems. It's all about context. If someone is asking questions then what have I to be embarrassed about? This is not ...

Also check into Thomas Sowell's idea of "Late Talking Children".

Certain late talkers are a type of either NT or quasi-giftedness that is distinct from ASD. They do have some ASD traits, but are typically impacted far less. Late talkers may be the edge of normal right between Asperger's and NT.

Hell, if I couldn’t lie, my life would be horribly confusing. In addition to being an important social skill, mastering the ability to innately drop a good lie is the only way to avoid a lot of uncomfortable questions. For example: “Why do you get to live off campus?” “Oh, I took a bunch of AP and c...

Same here. Fatigue makes my problems much worse. I mumble, stutter, say the wrong word, and quickly get belligerent. I’m also much clumsier, not to mention even more anti-social (which should also be normal for NT’s, nobody wants to be around people when they are tired). The best time of day for me ...

Well, why did you quit? I did it last night. Wife sent me to get a pizza. I didn’t want to talk to the guy, so I walked around the block for ten minutes before I could walk in and get it. Closed my eyes while walking a few times, did my “count the fingers” trick (one-two-three-four, four-three-two-o...

Of course! The same way as any NT, I applied for it. Hell no. Finally, after fifteen years of searching, yes. Most days. Ow. Let’s count. Sixteen since age 13, seven since college graduation. Four times. Usually because people misinterpret what I say and do. I’ve learned how to fake it. Not anymore....

Normal is defined by the majority. NT's who use body language to communicate out number us, oh around 234 to 1 or so.

My problem tends to be with ideomotor dyspraxia, which could be called "secondary" by a person with insufficient understanding of it. Dyspraxia has two steps. 1) Can you determine what you want to do? Can you visualize it, tell somebody about it, plan the movement, etc... Full blow autism usually fa...

What about spatial thinking? http://www.neurolearning.com/spatial.htm People frequently confuse spatial thinking with visual. True spatial thinking is not visual thinking. For example: Draw me a picture of independence. Show me a picture of enlightenment. Tell me about what time looks like. Independ...

Procrastination is a matter of setting priorities. It is probably easier for Aspies to procrastinate then NT’s, because we get distracted so easily. At the same time, there is no clinical reason why Aspies should be lazy or lack conscientiousness. Instead I’ve seen a lot of Aspies use the “I’m not r...

Assuming we are not, ya know, trolling with our first couple of posts.... IQ and human intelligence is a fascinating topic. How would you recommend we measure it? IQ tests are broadly based on a concept called g-factor, or general factor intelligence. People with ASD, almost by definition, violate t...
