Hi Pooh! I'm not 40, but I understand your frustration! I tested the waters when I first began to wonder about myself, I mentioned it very casually to my husband, listed a few Aspie traits I feel I have, and asked him what he thought. He was not willing to talk about it, so I dropped it. I figured i...

Try being candid about your feelings; say "I'm not angry, I'm just frightened, and that makes me very tense." Let the other person know that you're expressing fear, just not in a way that they may be used to. It can be hard to lay it all out like that, but I think that someone who cares for you (a f...

Miyah, I'm sorry about the problems with your parents. It's hard when they have an obvious favorite, and it feels like you spend your entire life running to keep up, but you can't change other people. You could try candidly pointing out what's bothering you, but it's unlikely that they'll ever see i...

I turn my arm rapidly from the elbow, relaxing my wrist and my fingers go flying; I guess it's the same motion you would use to shake a can of hairspray. It drives my dogs nuts because they've never seen me do it before now...They get all excited and think it's play time. The leg bouncing seems to m...

Hi Huggs! Thanks for the reply. it's weird, I figured out on my own that I have a disorder, but instead of feeling bad about it, it's kind of nice to at least have a name for all these strange quirks, and to know there's a reason for it all. But I am glad that I didn't figure this out til later in l...

Thanks for replying! I was pretty stressed out at the time because my kids were acting up, so maybe it was sensory overload. You mentioned ADHD chemistry, could that be affected by diet? My eating habits have changed in the past few weeks (high protein), maybe that has something to do with it. Thank...

Hi everyone, I'm back. The wierdest thing happened to me in church the other day; I was sitting there and suddenly I felt this intense need to flap my hands, which I haven't done for YEARS. During my late teens I learned to control the urge and redirect it into pen fiddling, or moving my leg up and ...

I could be wrong, but I think when someone does the 'telephone' gesture, they're asking for a phone call. Maybe he doesn't realize that you don't have his number? What if you asked him (or wrote him) point-blank, "would you like to be friends?" At least then you could get a straight yes or no. If he...

I like the old standby "That was rude." :D I wouldn't shout it or anything, becasue that makes it seem like you've been horribly offended. Just state it in a calm monotone. If that's too blunt, try "Why would you say that?" That gives her a chance to explain herself better or apologize. If she's ask...

There's nothing wrong with caring for/living with your mom, especially if she'd doing poorly. It's probably good for her to have you around! But there's no reason why you can't expand your horizons a bit, make friends, and maybe even find a nice guy. What about special interest groups? Think of some...

The only way to get good at forcing yourself to do something, is to practice. I would start with something that's not physically demanding, like writing four good sentences in a journal every day, or memorizing a long poem, one stanza at a time, or sitting in a room for five-ten minutes and writing ...

I've actually got it on order at the library. Most of the books they have are about Autism in children, but they've still been very helpful.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. I really appreciate it. It's kind of amazing to be able to ask y'all about this stuff; I've been finding ways to deal with my wierdness for almost thirty years and to find out that other people have been doing the same thing all along really makes me ex...

It's a little silly to declare all of the animal kingdom a nonstop battle for perfect genes. If that were the case, bunnies would be a hundred feet tall and the dominant species on the planet. Male tigers that come across abandoned/orphaned cubs, will often bring them food. Prairie dogs work togeth...

We go out on Black friday, but not to shop. We get hot coffee and just walk around and watch people.
We take pictures of the people camped out on the sidewalk, and the lines stretched all the way around the store. People say and do crazy stuff; it's better than a movie.

Have you tried looking back? You don't have to make eye contact, but if you notice someone staring at you, take stock of them. Consider their hair, their clothes, their shoes. Make a mental note of the ravioli stain on their belly, the visible bra strap, the poser tattoo that they probably regret. ...
