My husband's father was much like yours as he explains it to me. They don't have much of a relationship and I've never met him. I don't really want to and they live several thousand miles away. He's a nuclear physicist and apparently spent most of his life in his study, only coming out to be angry s...

ZurDarkstar-- What a wonderful, insightful post! It speaks much to what I think is happening here. I'm a pretty instinctive, intuitive parent (even though I know I get it wrong sometimes). I have already raised three NT daughters to successful adulthood as I'm much older than my husband and that's h...

Thank you all for your thoughtful replies. His areas of interest include astronomy, computers, making videos and just science in general. I will try to find a group for one of those for him. He also gets along much better with people older than him than kids his own age. I have been teaching him man...

I am stepmother of 1 year to a 12yo boy who is undergoing testing for what I'm relatively sure is Aspergers. We moved in August to a state far away from where he had lived for the previous 7 years. He felt like he had lots of "friends" there. His definition of friend is not what I consider a friend,...

This is just my opinion, but I think sugar cravings can be related to low neurotransmitter levels. I know when I am off my antidepressant, I crave sugar like crazy. Also, my husband has had serious depression issues all his life and he is the same when either off antidepressants or not on the right ...

I stated he will likely grow out of it because OCD in children tends to be very dynamic and morphs frequently. Also, he is on medication, the dose of which will likely be continually re-adjusted as he ages, and which will likely be changed and combined with various other medications, and it's more ...

missykrissy--
My stepson licks his lips incessantly at times now that the winter air is much drier. If I can get him to drink lots of water during the day, he stops. I think the lip-licking thing is an effort to make chapping feel better which can sometimes be alleviated by hydrating with water.

I hate to rain on everyone's parade here with the "he'll grow out of it" thoughts, but my husband is 43 and he hasn't. He cuts all his nails with clippers till they bleed. If he doesn't have clippers, he picks even worse. He is very hairy and he picks at his skin, any little imperfection, real or im...
