I've been interested in Asperger syndrome for a long time. But I only joined after my best friend was diagnosed with it. I doubted the diagnosis and wanted to talk about it, but I didn't want to speak to my friend herself because I was afraid of confusing her. Once in a while now I check WrongPlanet... |

For me it's interesting to read that many of you use sarcasm yourselves but have trouble understanding the sarcastic comments of others. My best friend has Asperger's and among all the people I know she is probably the one who uses sarcasm the most. This actually contributed to my questioning her di... |

I dislike the "How are you?" thing, too. Sometimes it's because people make me feel I don't have the "right" to feel bad because others are worse off (this kind of comments actually seems to cheer some people up, so I don't think those who use them have bad intentions, but still...). However, the mo... |

I don't have Asperger's myself, but my best friend does, so I think my perspective might be of interest to you. (But please don't take it as "an NT's perspective" - I have a kind of uncommon personality that confuses psychologists and I think I even have some traits of Asperger's, so I'm not a good ... |

My question for NTs is why do you make judgements and expectations of people based on a number (age) and not on their maturity? Alot of people have made me feel really bad because they had expectations of me that I wasn't ready to meet. i.e. " You're ___ years old so you should ______" Well, I'm no... |

In my opinion, one should give people the benefit of the doubt - if someone is withdrawn, assume they are shy or just introverted or need some time alone for another reason. Sometimes, "physical" signs can show shyness. A shy person might keep their arms close to their body and maybe lean forward a ... |

If I've understood you in the right way, you think that there might be different kinds of anxiety in sogial situations: - when you actually want to participate - or when you actually don't want to, but feel obliged to participate Is this right? I also think that it's important two distinguish these ... |

Hi temetvince! I'm afraid that I can't give you an answer either, but at least I can tell you that I'm in a similar situation (and have been for years). Since I learned about Asperger's (when I was about 13, I guess), I've been seeing many similarities to my life - in some aspects, this has helped m... |

Wow, this is the first time I can remember that someone mentions this strong connection between thought and movement. It's there for me, too. I start moving (walking around the house, jumping up and down, flapping my hands) when I think about something that fascinates me, mostly when it also trigger... |

I can relate to this experience, and it's really a problem in my friendships. I'm generally interested in things that involve a lot of thinking. My topics of interest change, but now they are mostly mathematics, linguistics and, well, autism. I think that your interests, dreamcaster85, seem quite ma... |

I've also always been bad at sports - as a child I was diagnosed with a "delay of motor development". The only kinds of sports I like somewhat are swimming and badminton (I also like hiking, but I don't really consider that sports). I've never had the chance to do sports with a group of people whose... |

I'll join this thread and add some of the peculiarities of German. Inversion. It's just cool. In English, you nearly always have subject – verb – object word order (SVO), e.g. " I love you ." In German, word order can be changed (inverted): for example SVO/OVS/SVOV (yes, some verbs get split) in dec... |

I hope nobody thought I had lost interest in my own thread because I didn't post for such a long time. (In fact, the reasons were mostly lack of time, lack of internet access and being too excited to answer.) In fact, all the various topics you mentioned made me think about Asperger's, my relation t... |
