The other volunteer is not your problem. She probably felt she wasn't needed, and then decided going back to work, or out shopping, was a better use of her time. Neither of those would be personal to you, just reflective of the situation. It sounds to me like you did exactly what you are supposed t...

I like what ASDMommy suggested. I wonder if my son would eat at all at school if it weren't' for the fact that I bring him for breakfast at school every morning. By being there in the lunchroom in the mornings, I've trained him to sit and eat in the lunch room. If you are able to go observe, I total...

After yesterday, though, dealing with that other volunteer walking out while I was helping in the class the first day I was there, and then when I emailed the vice principal about it, all I get is stilted responses. I'm made to feel that my concern and interest in my son, and even my interest in he...

I have a son in kindergarten also. We have him in a private school this year, and although he is struggling socially I don't believe there is anything going on like what you are describing. I think the teacher makes a big difference. Last year was a different story for us. It was horrible. Similar ...

I don't have a little girl, or a child in that age range, nor do I home school. But I wanted to say welcome to the forum. People here are so very genuinely helpful. I really wish you the best. It sounds like you both need a break from each other. My little guy is really easy going, but after two mon...

I really feel for all of you, and am so glad I haven't had a lot of negative comments. Well, except for when my husband's aunt told me "There is something wrong with him!" It was a serious no-duh moment for me. I'd told him about my autism suspicions, and she told me this after she'd escalated a mel...

Thanks so much for the thoughts. It very nice to just post here and get some thoughts from other parents. I want so badly to give the teacher the benefit of the doubt, but I am getting a little concerned that she may not be a good fit either. I'll be in the classroom two days a week to start and be ...

The only person who can steer an, erm, hobby is the Aspie who has it. She might learn that someday, but she's got enough to deal with right now without having to "make" herself be interested in something that someone else deems "acceptable enough." ^^^^This I have been criticized so many times, bot...

The good is, the school psychologist is great, and the team is taking my son's evaluation seriously. The bad, I'm not so sure about the teacher. She seems nice enough, but I'm beginning to wonder. I volunteered on a field trip and she spoke rather harshly to the students, and seems short tempered. I...

Your son sounds amazing. Is it possible he has a photographic memory? With my two and a half year old, (who is non-verbal and socially delayed, but not diagnosed yet), it's anything physical. In playgrounds, she will automatically head for the hardest, most challenging piece of equipment. Anything ...

Don't it as going over her head. Look at it as getting her the help she needs to help your son. Believe me, if there are behavioral issues, she will want this. She may just not be allowed to initiate anything that could cost the district money. Writing in class is not the same as making letters out...

I see a lot of frustration, issues, questions and need for support in this forum, and am glad there are so many people who are willing to answer and help. how about some bragging? I know this has surely been done before, but I just have to do it. I'm not alone in being absolutely amazed by my kid, r...

I note that DH is a professional engineer, while BuyerBeware is a SAHM who fantasizes about becoming a self-reliant survival farmer and recluse. All those As and that four-year full scholarship really did me a lot of good-- NOT!! Love that part, because I relate. My husband had to go to a special s...

My son gets so mad at me for things he thinks he said, but didn't. I can't convince him that he never told me. I saw on another thread that some autistics assume we know what they are thinking. How can we address this? If this is an autistic thing, then my Husband is on the spectrum too. He does th...

Covuschik and Buyer Beware, thank you for the comments. And *Sigh* I can tell there is a long battle ahead of me. I had to visit the school today because my sweet little boy was throwing pencils and apparently chairs. (I"m still not sure what happened because I couldn't quite get a straight answer a...
