I didn't like the newborn phase, I felt like I was constantly either holding him and wearing myself out for no good reaons, or abandoning him. Infancy itself was fine. But love him getting older! Well, other than the fact that he's getting older that is

I do believe in reincarnation, but the idea of being "punished" for a previous life is not in my theology/philosophy? I just think that there's a God that wants relationships with his creation, and He gives us free will to choose to be with him or not. If we don't want to be, then we just ...

Whatever you all decide, do try and make sure that your daughter has processed it. If aborted, it's possible that later she will regret that decision, and "no baby" might be a reaction to the shock of being pregnant, rather than a desire to do away with it. Really, only she can know that. ...

In that case, no, I haven't and I don't think it would be that helpful at all. Autism is a different brain-structure than neurotypicals, so different approaches are needed. I could see someone doing that as highly annoying me for insisting that I am something I am not, and not understanding me at al...

Does/did anyone here ever go to a therapist who doesn't like labels? Do you feel it is/was helpful? Did you ever feel invalidated by it? I would like to read people's various opinions/experiences regarding the issue. Thank you! Can you explain what you mean? Do you mean they don't use any labels wh...

That's a great looking infographic, and I think your results are interesting. How did you get so many responses? Did you collect data from any sites besides WP? If so, do you mind saying which ones? I had the support of several organizations (ASAN and a few others) and advocate blogs that helped. I...

I'm still working on the formal write-up, but I went ahead and created this infographic which shows the results from the self-identity poll that I took throughout April. As a thank-you for helping me get the data I needed, I am publishing this infographic for anyone that wants it. Also, feel free to...

Hello, I do not intend to offend anyone by this thread. However, I am unable to understand what it is that autistic self-advocates do to help families whose loved one has moderate to severe autism ? For whom autism is a debilitating disability rather than just a "different and quirky way of be...

Originally posted in General Autism Talk, but thought it fit best over here, so resubbiting. So I got into a long talk with my autism specialist, who said that she respects my decision to use identity-first language, but that her higher-ups command that she use person-first language unless asked dif...

Aspie, as cute as it is,... Oddly enough, that's exactly why "Aspie" is my least favourite term. Mine too, but it can be a "softer" approach to the identity, I think, than autistic. Less connotations attached. But its "cuteness" for me, as a 27 year old, is a problem t...

My issues with Aspie, as cute as it is, is it isn't meant for the whole spectrum, and is a name for a condition that is no longer really diagnosed to begin with.

Thank you Animalcrackers, I will check with her. Though, when we were talking about doing the survey she said I was well connected in autistic groups online, and I should ask them, and we've talked about the self-diagnosis part of the community before, and in fact she could argue I am self-diagnosed...
