I don't have self esteem problem, but not liking to wear a suit to work (hardly practical for an engineer) certainly didn't do my career prospects any good! That people think that "clothes maketh the man" is ridiculous, as any con man can put on a smart suit, but pointing this out will not...

When someone says Ireland, is it understood that they are referring to Ireland proper or both Ireland proper and Northern Irela...

For those who are Autistic in the historical sense, recognition as a minority should be a forgone conclusion, but there are elements at work who are determined to prevent that. Who or why isn't clear, but it looks like one of the techniques used is to keep on expanding the "autism" label, ...

I'm over 40 and still a virgin. Not by choice, but because I never met a woman who wanted to be with me, except for one or two rare occasions when it was someone I knew I had no attraction to. I'm in similar straits at age 70, and stopped trying a long time ago. I doubt it's at all financial in my ...

A song I've heard a lot on France Music goes "I want you to know that I'll carry you home, whether it's tonight or fifty five years down the road". I don't know the group, they have great voices, but it always strikes me as a bit creepy? I want you to know that I'll follow you home...

Songs Of Praise is like Karaoke for the faithful The one time Songs Of Praise came from a nearby church, many observed that the usual congregation had been pushed out to make room for the local movers and shakers (most of whom couldn't sing for toffee!). Had they suddenly got religion do you think?

I should have added that the main benefit of pyramid management structures is that a manager who manages other personnel can only expect a certain salary, a manager who manages other managers can claim more, and so on until we end up with the truly absurd salaries (they like to call it "compens...

I don't understand the NT fixation with meetings at work. These are long and boring and don't really achieve anything, yet they keep having them. Companies are run primarily for the benefit of managers, and the more managers the better. This is why "flat" management structures never catch...

It might actually be Vimto. Sometimes these "name brands" sell off a load of their stuff cheap to a supermarket on the strict understanding they sell it under a different label. God only knows why. Well, that's what I've heard. It's more likely that it's not "their stuff" at all...

Here's a twist; once I got into job hopping (the only sure way of getting a pay rise as an engineer) I notice I was barred from the jobs in engineering design I should have got, because they required a 2.1 or higher. I presume they thought they were getting a better class of engineer, but here's the...

I must have finished LeCarrés book (something like "A legacy of spies") and have just returned it to the library. I can hardly remember anything about it; definitely not recommended!
