My wife had a serious reaction to a vaccination as a child -- Her immune system attacked peripheral nervous system in response to a vaccine. She had to get steroid injections for years, and experienced stunted growth as a result. She has tremor and loss of sensation to this day. You'd think this wou... |

I very narrowly graduated from a charter highschool in the year 2000. I haven't had further "official" education since -- but not for lack of want. I really love to learn about nature, it's my default state. Every day I read non-fiction related to science, plants, to fungi, and I add to my inner ban... |

here is me with my kookaburras before i was forced to move away from where i lived by the roads and environment council WOW, it's great that they are so tame. When I lived in the southern part of the USA, there was a group of Black-Crowned Night Herons (nycticorax nycticorax) which I would feed by ... |

Yes.
Ritalinized
Adderallized
Dexedrinized
But it didn't help much. Made me feel euphoric and warm. Didn't help me focus. |

My relation to birds is that we're both bilaterally-symmetrical endothermic ophistikont deuterostome coleomate chordate tetrapods. Just kidding (sort of)
I have 6 chickens. They spectacularly stupid, but endearing animals. Yes, I like them. |

When I was a kid, it was a kind of hidden rage, often towards situations that made me feel indignant. Such as being bullied by a former friend. The jerk would cut me in line every day. One time he did this I got so angry at him, I grabbed a lunch tray to strike him with, but became paralyzed with re... |

When I peel and cut fruits to eat, I sometimes feel a little bad for throwing the seeds away because the plants produced them so they can reproduce. If I just eat and throw away the seeds, I might be just using and exploiting the plants. I feel I should return the favor and help them reproduce. Sou... |

I am working on reviving Venus Fly Traps and have cloned from a bud off the rhizome so i have a lil special bugger that is starting to grow! I'm very excited for it, the local store almost killed the poor things by using the wrong water on them, they like only the distilled or rain water. Carnivoro... |

It took some time to identify what "objects" I tend to fixate on and identify with. It seems obvious in retrospect, if only because the objects aren't "inanimate" in the true sense. They're just non-motile. I identify with plants and trees, some animals to a lesser extent (yes, even a few motile one... |

I'm an avid wild mushroom collector myself -- edible species. I've also seeded about 6 species into parts of my yard, just to have them nearby for culinary purposes: Blewit (clitocybe nuda) -- in a deep bed of leaf mulch beneath maple trees Shaggy mane (coprinus comatus) -- in the lawn by the compos... |

Yes, this type of bioremediation is outlined in Paul Stamets' book "Mycelium Running" and it's oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus species) that can break the bonds of hydrocarbons rather easily. (I've got some oyster mushrooms growing on coffee grounds / newspaper shreddings in the basement right now.) The... |

My very first "girlfriend," when I was 18. After the first few months she seemed to be getting frustrated with my distractibility and the awkwardness that came from my own lack of social comprehension. I tried casually discussing qualities of ADHD (my then diagnosis) by saying "people with ADHD can ... |

Sunshower is right. It's the only way to get out of it -- sometimes we get "addicted" to people. We have to quit them as though they were a toxic substance. Because in a very real emotional sense, they are. The decision has to be for your own sake, it has to come from you. Not because other people t... |

I am still upset about something that happened 4 years ago, I had a dream about it again last night. It was one of the more traumatic social experiences. 4 years ago I was fired from my job which I'd held for 18 months, the longest time I'd been able to hold any job. A few months prior I had been of... |
