I just discovered this whole topic last night by searching "pacing and talking" on WP. One of those real "Oh, Wow - that's exactly it!" kind of moments. This is exactly what my 13yr old AS daughter does. Paces and makes up stories - loudly saying all the character parts out loud, complete with vario...

This is the only site I can be me ( except for sites relating to my hobbies as a Reef Aquarist, Backyard Astronomer, Roswell & UFO crash info. In other words Special intrests!). I can talk here FINALLY about stuff too weird for NTs or family members. Feels great! But I can see a parent being al...

This is a very interesting and timely thread for me. I am the mother of a 13 yr old AS girl and have come to WP over the past few years to read so I can understand and help her better. She has only just recently discovered a special interest website (art) that has a social media type of format (mess...

I think folks might be overlooking a possible very positive effect of a book like this... Celebrities are often able to effect great change due to their higher profile, right? So, Temple Grandin has great visibility now, due in great part to her anomalous abilities. If she writes a book about these ...

There! You are behaving "as if" all on your own. What happens when you try it? Can you worry a little less and leave the problem behind a little sooner. |

Hi there... I think you are right that this is not at peculiar to AS, not at all. I used to be very thin-skinned and spend a great deal of emotional energy trying to figure out what people meant by this, that and the other thing (and I don't have AS). I would feel very wounded by comments or perceiv...

I am the mom of a 13 yrs old As girl. From one NT mom's perspective: We worry that we are providing you with the best possible skill set that we can manage so that you can function in the world. The social skills are every bit a part of this as making a sandwich and taking care of hygiene and gettin...

Ressurecting this thread because i just watched this film. Random thoughts... I just discovered it and it was of special interest to me since I live in rural Maine though not as rural as Billy. The main thing that captures my thought is the plight of AS persons that do not get diagnosed at an age th...

I agree with the previous posts that you cannot change your hard-wiring with supplements or diet - but rather strive to have balanced nutrition so you can be the best you can be. I really do think fish oil is a worthwhile supplement for anyone but it is not going to change your life forever, only ju...

Brolife, There are lots of self help books that are possibilities. I went on Amazon and like the looks of this one...very high number of 5-star reviews. I may get it myself... You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy While I probably will explore the medication option, at least as an experiment, I am ...

I think cauliflower puree would be very useful. Loads of nutrition including some protein and fiber, and bland tasting so could be sneakily added to a wide variety of recipies like baked goods etc.

Having AS would not usually cause such significant concentration issues, or memory issues, or speech issues. Perhaps you have something co-morbid with AS such as ADD. YES! Ask your therapist about this! I recently started counseling to get help with AS related family issues (daughter and undiagnose...

My 12yr old now may be able to pluck a tidbit from the day to share however it's not of great interest to her and frankly it's not of great interest to ME to discuss my day - after all, I've already lived it and have little interest in coughing up some details for the sake of chit chat. And I've rea...

Hi, My daughter was diagnosed at three and a half, that's how she talked then - now at 12, she has an excellent vocabulary and converses very well and I am confident she will continue to improve. This was a gradual process but it came none the less. I'd adopt a view of patience and less worry for yo...
