Yes, he makes eye contact, but it took years for this to happen. And then one day...it just happened. It's like a part of his brain just clicked. Sometimes when he's really excited I might have to prompt him, but other than that, it's pretty good. I just want to encourage parents to be patient. Also...

I think sometimes what is necessary for sites like Generation Rescue, which I actually like, is to define what they mean by "reversable" and/or "recovery." I think these things mean different things to different people. For some, they mean the elimination of the person or the person's essence. To ot...

Hello, everyone! We're in Southern, California and my son has had pretty good services and there are many opportunities here for alternative or DAN support if you're willing to drive. Now, we did have some school issues involving inclusion that we had to resolve, but once that was taken care of thin...

Orr, thanks so much for posting this video. We have never used medication, but I like to stay on top of issues within the community. I know many parents who do use medication and I have to respect that. But, I also know therapist who won't give it to children. Go figure. Anyway, thanks for the video.

I noticed that in math, my son sometimes only gets problems wrong that he has skipped. So, I encourage him to check and recheck. The one way to assure he hasn't skipped a question is to go back and check. He'll be taking the state's standards test for the second time this spring and we're really wor...

I'd like to put this out there: What would be a better term than 'birth defect'? If we are to describe infants that have physiological, neurological, or structural anamolies during development and at/during birth, what would be the appropriate term for the medical and scientific community to use? We...

Blueskygirl, I wanted to offer you support as well and let you know that we all have these days and we get through them. My kid is only 8, but I'm a pro at having an aweful parenting day. But, I get through it and move on. You'll get used to that as well because at the end of the day, all the wonder...

Nutmegfae, welcome. Getting your therapies and services in place should be your priority and it's a good time to start since it's summer and most schools are out. And, getting an IEP set up to start working towards his/her educational goals. Does your school only have one program for him? You might ...

I think Aspies should totally be parents if it's their desire and they have the right skill set and resources -- like everyone else -- to raise children. My goal in life is to live long enough to see my grandchildren born. If my kids decide not to have children, then I'm going to be one pissed off e...

Since school has been out, my son pops in his Animanics DVDs any opportunity he gets and I'm a bit done with it. He needs to refocus on something else for a few days, then come back to it. It's becoming too much even for me because I can't get the their theme/tune out of my head. I can understand, ...

I'd just like to say that I'm not really a big obsessed Harry Potter fan as I have never read any of the books, nor do I plan too, though in the not too distant future I might. I kinda have problems with reading. I can read properly, but nothing really long like books. I can read comic books becaus...

My wife and I just watched Insidious while eating dinner this evening. As it was made by the creators of Paranormal Activity, it was actually a pretty decent horror movie with some effective scares. Unfortunately, it'll never be as well known as Paranormal Activity . -Bill, otherwise known as Kraic...

I've looked up falafell on Google and I wouldn't even touch it. To hear kids to eat something that I'd be cautious about eating would set me off on the inside. Don't give up on falafel. It's actually quite delicious. It's like a fried bread and very tasty...herbs and all. You can dip it in hummus o...

Hi Rolzup! I actually have the book you're talking about, but I think I have an earlier version. I'll go check. I understand how it can make some feel a bit uneasy, but it's not meant to promote a "cure," for autism as it is to help children manage their disabling symptoms. And, Aquatic Therapy is a...
