This is why I always watch DVDs with the subtitles turned on. I often hear speech clearly and yet the words don't sink into my brain, if that makes sense. I was calling it "audio dyslexia" before I found out that it had a name (CAPD) and that it's common for people with Asperger's. I have subtitles...

So I got my hearing checked recently, and my hearing was perfect. Yet for some reason, I never hear things right. It's a sound discrimination thing, where I hear everything, but it all sounds like similar words. For instance, someone said good morning to me the other day, I thought he said something...

How do you guys think without words? Can you formulate sentences or 'talk' in your head?
Yup, I do that. I 'hear' what I see while picturing it. |

Serious Question: What does it mean to "think in pictures"? Why is this unusual and what are the different "ways to think". Oddly I spent some time on google and wikipedia and I could not figure it out. Does anyone know? Here's what I mean: when I think, it's a play-by-play scenario like motion pic...

So I think in pictures, images, video, motion images (ie, movies), and so on. I recently found out that it is most common for Aspies and people on the spectrum to think in pictures. How is it that most people think?

I don't feel guilt from touching the opposite sex, but I would feel nervous doing so, except a handshake or something. I haven't done much dancing in my life, especially touch dancing. When I was in 7th grade, our physical education class included square dancing. I loved it. I liked getting permiss...

It baffles lots of us. Search around for "small talk" topics and you'll find a lot. I thought small talk was different though. There is a purpose, or end goal, to small talk. I need to get to know you better so I can work better with your strengths and avoid your weaknesses, or something like that....

So a friend told me I need to learn to just shoot the s**t, ie, talking with no purpose or reason. I think this is stupid. Why would I talk or speak without a reason? I don't waste my words, and only speak when I have something worth listening to. He kept telling me that I should 'just talk' and I c...

Are there any book suggestions, memoirs, how to's, or other publications that anybody would recommend I read on the topic of Aspies? I haven't read anything yet aside from diagnostic criteria, articles, and what I find here. Thanks.

Of course, whenever I did react with killer instinct, or what I thought it was, I went overboard. I either really hurt the opponent I was fighting, where people would gasp and say 'justjelliot, you took it too far' or would foul way too hard and get intentional fouls called. I didn't understand how...

When I was a kid, I made fun of another kid. My mother shamed me, and asked me to imagine what it would be like if I were the one being made fun of. This changed my life. I often imagine what it would be like if I were from a different country, SES, race, background, etc. I have a hard time being me...

I find that I often hear people tell me stories, then say 'Wow, I never tell this to people' or 'I can't believe I'm telling you all of this.' I don't probe most of the time, just listen, and repeat what I hear as I hear to make sure I got it right. Is this an Aspie trait, or just me? Could it be th...
