I'm taking four classes (13 credit hours). I'm in Philosophy 101, Anthropology 103, Math 115, and Political Science 111. I also work 18 hours a week. I am doing quite well. My grades are good and I really like my Anthropology class. It helps that my professor is very understanding about AS. Unfortu...

What is a healthy course load for someone with Aspergers?

If someone with Aspergers is enrolled in too many courses, what are the possible outcomes? Also, how can the risks of course overload be mitigated?

Executive dysfunction. This pretty much sums it up. The biggest problem to me is that because AS is not something physically apparent, people always assume I'm able to perform the same as an NT. It's very frustrating to have my limitations brushed off just because I appear normal. <rant> Right now ...

Surely when she goes to law school she'll find some normal person." As someone in law school, this made me laugh out loud. Good luck with that. I also find it amusing that apparently every single boyfriend my sociopathic sister has dated has turned out to be "physically abusive." Every single...

I find most of the time when I get overworked/overwhelmed I end up burning myself out and resort to old habits to cope. For instance, taking a 9-course load semester. I heard a lot of Aspies do better with a lighter load and can sometimes get help through Disabilities Services. Unfortunately, I wasn...

Were they supportive, in denial, or rejecting? For the last 27 years, I've tried to earn the affection of my parents by doing all the good things a child should do. But, after this week, I'm starting to realize that may never be obtainable. After disclosing to my mother of my diagnosis, for the firs...

So yesterday I accompanied my "mother-in-law" to see her GP and made an appointment for myself to get a second opinion about abdominal distention I've had my entire life and lower left abdominal pain that began earlier this year (gets worse when I eat nuts, seeds, potatoe chips--any hard, sharp food...

My entire life I've always had digestive problems. When I was younger I always experienced explosive diarrhea after drinking milk--however, my blood test results indicated that I wasn't lactose intolerant. In addition, throughout my teen years I would only experience a bowl movement once a week. Alo...

Every once in a while I will encounter someone from my past (i.e., elementary, secondary, post-secondary, work, or family friends) and the inevitable question always comes up--"what have you been up to?" Unfortunately, I haven't been employed since 2006 as I was unable to hold a job for longer than ...

While reflecting over my years in high school and post secondary I realized that the only times I've felt comfortable or accepted is in courses related to computer science, health sciences, or visual art. The people seem easier to get along with and my tendencies to be focused on details are encoura...

I tried baking a loaf of pumpkin bread for a family Christmas dinner my boyfriend and I were planning to attend--note: I never bake or cook. However, after 70 minutes had passed, the bread was still raw inside (I suspect our oven may be on its last legs as it does this with other foods) and was very...

<rant> Last Christmas I participated in my boyfriend's family's first Secret Santa with a limit of $50 and minimum $20; however, I received someone I had never met or heard of as my assigned person. Since she didn't upload a wishlist of any kind, unlike everyone else, I tried to purchase a "safe" gi...

I mentioned my AS in an e-mail to a program coordinator for media design (i.e., web design, mobile apps, flash games), however now I'm kicking myself for doing it. The response I received was that it would be an issue as there is a lot of group work, clients and social media involved and I might ben...

I am currently trying to find a place to volunteer; however, it's proving to be quite difficult. This morning I received a response from Big Brothers and they request that I provide 3 references (I have 0) and a resume (the last job I worked at officially was in 2006) for their HR department. Here I...
