Ya mean if someone says "I am happy about such and such.." you break out into the Will Pharell song? Or if they mention that they "love Paris" you break out into "I love Paris in the springtime, I love Paris in the fall..."? And yeah, I do both. Pretty consistently on ...

What you are doing is similar to how BAP is related to autism. Is it the same trait? Probably. But in that measure, with the low amount of intensity to which you are referring, its not really full scripting. Its not creating a situation where it's hard for you to get your point across because you o...

So my sister is Autistic. To my knowledge, I'm broader autism phenotype. As life has gone on, I've noticed more and more autistic like characteristics in myself. Now I'm wondering if I script? Whenever I'm really happy and she or my mom, or someone I'm comfortable with says a line, I pull a song it ...

I don't know if it'd be too subtle for you but I stim constantly , as in non stop unless I'm eating, talking and possibly sleeping, with my tongue - the backs of my front lower teeth are rough and I rub my tongue along that. No one is any the wiser. Even toyed with the idea of getting a gold tooth ...

I'm not sure if it's the MOST satisfying in the world, but I thought this was pretty wonderfully satisfying to watch (a lot of it's machinery) and thought you folks might feel the same. What do you think - does it live up to the name?

Gum?

Cut the end off of a chewy toy and chew on it, move it around your mouth etc. like candy?

Alas, chewing a lot is an issue for me. I have jaw problems. :( So I need something that only needs minimal chewing, like hard candy which you only chew after you've sucked on it a long time.

So, when I can't so much jump up and down and flap my hands (say, when I'm driving or sitting in class), I have an alternate stim I use. Unfortunately, that's eating hard candy. It's a great stim...I can move it around in my mouth, chew on it, etc, without anyone being any the wiser. Except it's ter...

Can we add 'not telling your child they're autistic' to the list? I know it's a really scary thing to do, but most kids I've heard of (my sister included) who have been told reacted with relief. My sister says it was an amazing thing to hear, because all of a sudden she knew that it wasn't her fault...

I looked EVERYWHERE, and I mean EVERYWHERE for good books to explain autism to kids. I bought and discarded so many books as unsuitable it isn't even funny. To make my list books had to be self-esteem affirming - or at least not harmful - as well as accurate, kid friendly, and at least mostly applic...

I used to think I was lazy, in a weird way. Like I would devote loads of time working on some things (like my website), but when it came time to go cook even microwaving something seemed like too much effort, and when it came to cleaning the same. My mom told me these things made me lazy, so I belie...

You might want to refer to leaflets or pamphlets rather than "handouts". I got entirely the wrong impression reading the subject line of this thread as "handouts" typically refers to donations of money to the poor or people in need. Oops. Had not made that connection, thanks for letting me know! To...

Thanks for the information! It's nice to have something to pass along. :) Also, yes, ditto. I went through your blog last night (what I could justify before I forced myself to start studying again, that is) and it's really good. :) Plus you're always answering questions here on WrongPlanet and I rea...

I majored in speech pathology in Undergrad. I didn't go to grad school for it, because speech pathology involves certain treatments which I cannot administer. I'm also too much "into myself" at times, which renders me somewhat of an inadequate clinician. Forget about the "ideological" battles. the ...

So, in two and a half weeks I'm going to be starting school to get my Master's in Speech Pathology. I'm really excited about it...but I'm also really nervous. Because I can tell that my professors/classmates and I have really different views about autism. I believe in acceptance/understanding and I ...

Sounds like this assessor has a lot to learn about...well, a lot of things, autism and respect among them. :( You're doing great advocating for yourself, though. Would the assessor be a part of the group, or are they just referring you to it? (Forgive me if you said this already, if so I didn't catc...
