Marshall I am a parent of an AS child and I have that problem myself but I don't think people notice that I take longer. I have a feeling this is the case for you as well. Being a lingerer is something I never hear anybody being criticized about. People will criticise for other things but never that...

They sometimes have children's programs where they read with companion dogs and sometimes cats. Don't know if that would help but it might help relieve a tough task. I think one of them is called PALS reading dogs. In Calgary the dogs just come once a week at the local library. http://pawsaslovingsu...

Actually, after my daughter was diagnosed, the single most helpful thing for me was to read things written by autistics. I honestly do not understand how someone without ASD can parent a kid on the spectrum without reading things written by people on the spectrum Same with me. Usually I am reading ...

I had to look at the age range of Monster High as my near 6 year old isn't into it and neither are her classmates. It is all Ty Beanie Babies, Pet Shop, and My Little Pony with the kids I know who are 5 and 6 years old. It says that Monster High is a tween doll aimed at age 8-12 years old. I wouldn'...

Where we live a child diagnosed with autism/aspergers or even ADHD can have a full time 1-1 aide for up to 3 years. But only until they are finished Kindergarten or turn 6 years old. After that a child would have to be pretty severe to still get a 1-1 aide and I've heard of crazy severe cases where ...

We have Autism/Asperger social groups but we are in a large city. Maybe you could find one or even start one. Kids from universities who have some training and want to work in these fields will often volunteer to help. My daughter has done things like swimming, painted pottery parties, and trips to ...

I just wanted to say that my Inlaws who likely have aspergers and ADHD had 3 NT kids so you could just have typical kids. Of course the aspie genes showed up in the next generation.....

I just wanted to say that I know NT's who went to Japan to teach English and they quit almost immediately and went home. I guess they were lonely. So if it doesn't work out don't feel bad about quitting. It is not that uncommon with this type of job. However in saying that, you will never know if th...

If he is young he probably naturally has an ear for learning languages, even with autism. If you are fluent in the language just start speaking it to him. We are Canadian and we will be putting our AS daughter in French Immersion. French Immersion is school where an English child goes and gets almos...

We purchased our NT son a keyboard from Costco Canada and they are relatively inexpensive keyboard with weighted keys. I like the keyboard as it does not take very much room. I think if we were to sell it would be easy as well as it is a beginner piano and there are always people starting piano less...

Drywall it is actually very cheap to fix if that is what he damaged. It just requires a lot of elbow grease. Just look on Youtube for directions on what to do. Personally I would have my child fixing the drywall even if they don't do things right. When one sees how much work it is to fix things they...

I would still cut off the internet in the entire house. It may be inconvenient for me also, but the situation described sounds unlivable. If you had an alcoholic in the house would you keep alcohol in it. Perhaps I would take them camping or do a vacation type activity that they like but doesn't inv...
