For that price range, getting a faster GPU than an A8-3870 will be difficult - the GPU basically comes 'free' with the A8 whereas you'll need to pay another $70 or so for things that start being faster. Intel's built-in GPUs (HD3000, etc) are slower (including Ivy Bridge, their latest). That said, f... |

Re: Quad core, yeah, I noticed that myself recently.. good catch. Hybrid drives have both an SSD and a HDD component. They cache the data that is most used on the SSD and make the average use of the hybrid drive faster than an HDD on its own. I haven't heard much about hybrid drives lately.. when th... |

Further research - the GT240 and the A8-3870 actually are basically the same speed-wise for games. |

The E6750 is a Core 2 Duo chip that came out in 2007. The motherboard is average, towards the low end, but Gigabyte is a good brand. The 'sweet spot' pricewise for DDR RAM right now is speed 1600. The SSD is good and the HD is average nowadays. That graphics card is on the low end but will work well... |

If you're selling it, you might actually get more if you parts it out. Some parts of the system are better than others, like the Patriot Pyro. I wouldn't buy the system, since most of the stuff is too outdated for me.. but someone might pay.. $200-300? The thing is, the SSD is worth more than virtua... |

SSDs tend to have low capacity compared to hard drives, especially when comparing prices. Most people get a 120 GB or 60 GB SSD and put their OS and main apps/games on that and put everything else on a standard 1TB-type hard drive. In particular, things like mp3s and movies gain almost no benefit fr... |

The extreme-est of the extreme Intel CPUs is not very economical, no :) But the i5s are much better. That said, yes, the AMD FX chips are plenty fast, and with Win 8 coming out, they will become a little faster due to MS fully supporting their unique multi-core architecture. A PSU is a power supply.... |

CPUs - AMD is cheaper, but Intel is definitely faster and provides more bang for the buck. In particular the Core i5 'K' series chips are multiplier unlocked and can easily be overclocked 20% on the stock heatsink and voltage with no issues. I had the i5-2500K, stock 3.5 and OC'd it to 4.2 by just b... |

Oh, I didn't think about the fact that older drivers wouldn't exist for Vista/7..
I'm sure you can find a cheap copy of XP Pro on ebay or somewhere. If you want to use both CPUs, check up on me and make sure I'm right about XP Pro using them both |

Re: OpenOffice, development on that has stopped and now the same basic team is making LibreOffice and has continued making enhancements to it. It's possible that the problems you ran into with OpenOffice have been fixed. |

Full OpenGL support on consumer-level drivers is a fairly new phenomenon. Early 'OpenGL' drivers really just supported a few basic commands to get specially-written games (like Quake, Quake 2, others I forget) working. You can try Googling for 'nvidia driver opengl 1.2 support' and the like.. or 1.1... |
