I'd recommend the excellent Ikaruga (2001) made by Treasure. You can pick it up on Steam for $10, which is a fair bit less than many similar games. It's very challenging, with mechanics that are simple to learn but hard to master, rewarding riskier play. If you're looking for something more classic...

I sort of know what I'm getting into as far as difficulty goes. I know most of the games are punishingly difficult and I'm not expecting to get the hang of it very quickly. I guess I'm more looking for games that are "hard but fair" without too ridiculous of a difficulty curve or too stee...

I miss City of Heroes. I had a good time and spent countless hours making and leveling up characters. I still have the email they sent out when they shut down the servers. I don't recall the exact date the servers went down, but the email is from December 1, 2012. After hosting the final heroic bat...

Anybody know any good entry-level shmups? I'm looking to get into the genre more but I know so many of these games are notorious for their difficulty. I'd prefer older games (2000 and earlier) but later games are alright too. To be honest, you're going to find very, very few games that would be cal...

There's no pictures showing up here...

Anyway, I'm a fan myself as well. Been playing it since before even chickens had been implemented.

I mostly play older games these days with a few exceptions for series I'm loyal to. If I have to choose between getting a AAA game for $60 that I might not even like or an older game for $10 that I might not even like, I'm going with the latter. Newer indie games are a bit of an exception to this, ...

I didn't realise that this topic was still going. In any case though, I've settled for my PC. If others (those close to me) don't like it, tough. I didn't pay all that money to make a powerful rig just to see it gather dust in a corner. No no. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, the most powerful game I've g...

While what you've said may be true, there are actually people out there who don't know the difference between what's in media and in real life, and tend to be very gullible about seeing what they've watched, played, etc. So, rather than 'busted', this myth may actually be 'plausible'. Still going w...

Regrettably, I used to play the original GTA games when I was little, and I have to admit I'm NOT very fond of these games teaching you to get into criminal activities (and I cannot believe that they're still making newer ones today. :( ) So, no, it doesn't really make you independent, it just make...

I just got a VR unit, and a nigh-omnipotent PC to run it. So lately, it's been alot of VR stuff for me. Still getting used to it. But there's one game that's the core of the experience for me: https://i.imgur.com/8vpUpqU.jpg That's New Retro Arcade: Neon. All of those machines are fully active. Attr...

Oh yes, I have a dirty mind. I look at photos like these and am outright disappointed that there's not even one actual penis being shown.

Fortunately the rest of the internet makes up for that...

Did the OP get a discount for pre-ordering? Because that's been my observation, that pre-orders often come with some kind of collector's item, special packaging, or bonus content in the case of digital, or they are simply available at a lower price. That way, you have some sort of incentive in buyi...

I think one of the Atari 2600s main issues with arcade ports was the fact that it had a very simple controller--just a stick and one button. For any arcade games, mostly shooters, with multiple buttons, you naturally lost something or were forced to simplify things. Thing is, games that have lots o...

Ya know what, Coalminer's post mentioning "episodes 1-5" of a particular story/series might be another reason why Telltale eventually collapsed. Their stuff was just plain too expensive for many people. Think back to alot of the legendary adventure games of old. For the price of ONE game.....
