Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: The drug Abilify (aripiprazole) helping with irritability

In my experience, I'm sure it does work. I've had similar prescriptions to help me deal with frustration from the fact that my thoughts, emotions, and concerns are treated as invalid and irrelevant. Until the side effects catch up with me to the point that I can barely take myself to the bathroom, ...

Yes. A psychiatrist said I seem to have mild OCD, but not significant enough for a dignosis because it seems to be more symptoms of an ASD.

There were studies that indicated Abilify helped with irritability associated with autism spectrum disorders in children and adolescents. There is an article here . I was recently prescribed this by my psychiatrist and it helps immensely. I am an adult (20 years old). It really helps with irritabili...

I have no idea why I enjoy tight hugs. They just feel really nice. The deep pressure and everything. I remember being younger and I liked having people walk on my back or piling blankets on my bed because of the weight. I didn't know about weighted blankets before, so the only thing I could think of...

What made you decide to research AS? The first time I researched it, was after I'd watched an episode of CSI which involved an autistic man. I was curious about it so I researched autism and ended up reading about aspergers, too. The first thing I thought was "Wow, this sounds like me.", but I attr...

Pointless casual conversation between people. Talking for the sake of talking.

Yes. I just indulge the obsession until it's satisfied. Depending on the nature of the obsession, I might end up liking it, too. Some obsessions aren't enjoyable, and can never be, though. Some obsessions are only bad because I can't indulge in them properly and it makes me feel incredibly frustrate...

Yep. I want to know absolutely everything. It's frustrating for me, because everyone seems to underestimate how many details I want, and frustrating for other people, because I constantly pester them for more details. Part of it is because I have a lot of anxiety and I need to know everything possib...

7%. Not surprising. But I wonder what the average is for "normal" people.

7. I only correct because I want you to know the facts. I see myself as a teacher. This, really this. People hate it when I do it, but I do it all the time. My sister in particular hates me for it. She calls me a smart ass and that I like to make other people feel stupid. Even if I tell her that sh...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: My family Dr referred me to a psychiatrist: What to ask?

I would bring a list of reasons why you think you have aspergers and bring it in. They'll probably ask some related questions about the list, and then ask other questions to see if they can rule out aspergers. You can ask them for a referral to a specialist, which will happen regardless. But I belie...

psychiatrist=ignorant, prejudiced, or a**hole? Ignorant. He was nice about it though. When I corrected him, he didn't seem offended, and was grateful for the more accurate information. He told me that it wasn't something he had a lot of knowledge on, and that it was important for me to see someone ...

Uh... That's a psychopath, we're not psychopaths. I'm sorry that he seems to be ignorant. Yeah. Perhaps he thinks psychopaths and people with aspergers are more similar than they really are. I corrected him, though. And he told me that he is, clearly, not very knowledgeable about aspergers. But he ...

I was speaking to my (new) psychiatrist today, and one of the topics was aspergers. He said that a couple reasons which would indicate I don't have aspergers are 1, because I care about people (The people being my mom and friend, possibly siblings to a degree), and 2, I want to have friends. He assu...

I usually just say "thingy" when I can't remember a word and the context is enough to clue them in. Or I try to describe it as best I can and hope they'll get it and say the word.

I know how you feel. I have an appointment in a few days, and I feel conflicted. I guess you should just understand that regardless of the outcome, it doesn't define you. There are plenty of people you'd fit in with, AS or no AS. I'm not good at comforting, sorry. Just try to stay calm and remain ob...
