I still watch them. My special interest is a cartoon.

If an ASD person has soft toys/character clothing and likes to watch cartoons: symptom of ASD, person should be encouraged to take part in more "adult" pastimes.
If a "normal" person has soft toys/character clothing and likes to watch cartoons: endearing and quirky in a hipster kind of way.

When I turned on my laptop this morning, it acted as if I'd never turned it on before and started doing the "how to use windows" thing. Then it got stuck when I was supposed to move the mouse into one corner but it was unresponsive, so I had to restart it. Now it is letting me log on to my user area...

Yes ... hence the diagnosis.

How do you get a free assessment? I've been quoted anywhere between $350 and $1,500. In the UK a diagnosis is free on the NHS, unless you go private. But there's hardly anywhere to diagnose adults. I live in Plymouth and the closest place that would take me is Southampton. And that's if the doctors...

None of them. I have no desire to have friendships or relationships.

He is definitely a sea sponge, as stated by the creator of the show. The fact that he's square is supposed to represent his square personality and the fact that he's kind of a freak of nature.

First of all, I'll say that I don't believe in diagnosing fictional characters with mental disorders. They deliberately have exaggerated character traits, which is what makes them funny. So no, I don't think SpongeBob is autistic. Having said that, he does have an interesting set of character traits...

I just don't think to talk to them. "Catching up" isn't a natural thing for me, so I tend to just forget. I don't deliberately ignore people, though.

I was diagnosed at Sheffield last year. I think the referral was first made in late 2011 (Oct/Nov) and I had my assessment in May 2012. I can't remember how far in advance they told me about the appointment but I think it was at least a month or two. Both my parents came to my assessment and they ac...

I was like this. The main problem, though, was that I was also very sensitive to other people getting told off. I cried a few times because the teacher shouted at somebody else or the class in general. It was so bad that if I knew we were going to have a substitute teacher, which meant everybody els...

Yes ... I do this very often. Sometimes during the day but mostly at night time. Before I go to sleep I spend a long time imagining scenarios featuring my special interest characters. Like you, they're mostly from cartoons. One cartoon in particular. It's almost as if when I get in bed I naturally f...

For me, it was several reasons: - My older brother is almost certainly on the spectrum and both my parents have traits so the idea of what was "normal" in my family was skewed. My unusual behaviors didn't stand out as much. - I excelled at school. Even though I came home and cried every day, had hug...

Did you have a fight to get your GP to agree to refer you? I wouldn't say I had a fight but I had to have several people advocate on my behalf. Did you get sent to the wrong department - e.g. general mental health services not qualified to assess? For the actual AS referral I got referred to the ri...
