Good description. Modern-day pagans pretend to belong to groups which have ancient legacies, but in actuality all modern-day pagan groups are extremely recent and were basically just invented by nerds who took themselves too seriously. The clue is in the name: "pagan". "Pagan" was originally a name...

What I find a bit more amusing, though, is that the pagans I've encountered so far were mostly from the United States. Is it the same kind of false nostalgia that previously inspired Americans to build hundreds of castle-like houses and develop their own brand of christian fundamentalism? Good desc...

The problem I have with modern-day paganism is that I'm not sure if most people who claim to be pagans actually believe in what they say they believe. That's a problem I have with more religions that have surfaced recently, like Scientology, and any other religion that popped up or became popular w...

The evidence which fuels my beliefs is more persuasive to me than any evidence I've seen for Christianity--not to pick on that religion in particular. What evidence? I'm afraid that the historical record trumps spiritual experience when it comes to evidence. I can have a spiritual experience whenev...

I claim that pagans usually fall into two categories: People brought up in Christian homes who have rejected Christianity for the wrong reasons. The point is that you are supposed to believe in things which have evidence for them. There is more evidence for Christianity than there is for paganism. ...

...the majority of violent crime victims are still men, which doesn't exactly support the idea that men are privileged. If you look at one single aspect of culture, you could claim that a gay black paraplegic woman with AIDS is privileged. There are absolutely aspects of current culture that disadv...

I've learned that a lot of what we ourselves consider to be negative behavior actually comes across to others as not nearly as bad as we think. Other people are so concerned with themselves the last thing they want to do is judge someone else's behavior. That's a very good point! Sometimes I practi...

OCD is more or less a form of anxiety. You are obsessive because you think you are doing something wrong/something bad is happening etc. if you don't controll, don't think it through etc. I have the same thing: After a traumatic situation in the psychiatry nearly two years ago I was OPSESSED with t...

Oh gosh, I knew two men who were adamant about Masculinism/Masculism (not sure which). Neither were pleasant to women. In fact, they were so unpleasant that I had stopped all contact with them. One was also a stalker, and ironically, banned from the women's group in university, for various reasons ...

Here is my problem with the whole debate. Feminism has constructed or is constructing new social models for women's role in society. Complain about what men go through if you want, but it's not really useful to do so unless you're coming up with new ideas as well. Good and well to come up with a fe...

I like that list. I was originally deterred by Masculism because of the Merriam Webster definition about superiority. But after reading the info on your list, I looked it up on Wikipedia, and I liked Wikipedia's article about Masculism and it's relationship to Feminism. I like how they have two wor...

I remember reading an article about how women's sexual satisfaction tends to peak when they're older (like 40s ?), whereas men tend to have less orgasms after their teens. I don't think this has to do with evolution, but with socialization and personal development. Personally, I think that many wome...

One example is that men tend to be expected to act more aggressive and risky, and that is probably why men tend to die of violent deaths more frequently than women. Yes, the differences diminish with age. The weird thing with men acting risky and macho is that it is in some ways tied into society's...

Certainly this is complicated, and it's important to consider what you said earlier---it may be easier to see things a certain way because of your experience in your gender (be it male or female), BUT it's important not to discount the oppression or issues that the other gender has to face. Both me...

yes, working class women feel the same pressure as working class men to make decent wages. But, as soon as you move out of the working class, that changes. So, if the genders have equal pressure put on them in one social class, but one gender has more pressure put on them in all other social classe...
