If you are in the US you absolutely do not have to tell. You can also request accommodations from a university without telling anyone except disability services what the actual disability it. For a job, you may have to state that you can perform the functions of the job, but do you really want a job...

OK so this is a tough topic for me. I have very high-functioning ASD. I'm in graduate school and do well academically, but stress is really getting to me. I also have anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD. I do not want medication. I have tried them and they do not work. I am also very sensitive to ch...

I rock back and forth often. I also love water and so take a bath every day (Yes, cleanliness is good, but I use this for stimming to). I also love rocking so sleep in a hammock instead of a bed.

At the risk of being the only one on the other side of a heated conversation I think we should be a bit suspicious of self-diagnosis. Self-diagnosis is a powerful part of self-understanding. It requires recognizing some things in yourself that you may not like; however, self-diagnosis also opens up ...

Depending on the country, accommodations may be a right. Though treating them as a privilege may work better in asking for them. Beating people with the rules is generally an ineffective tactic, but it can be useful to know what the rules are. I'm in the USA where all accommodations are considered ...

In the US, your diagnosis should NOT be in any information a professor receives. They should only be getting a list of accommodations you need. Interviewers are not allowed to ask about disabilities. You should contact the university and make them aware of the situation. If you are qualified as an a...

Nonverbal Learning Disabilities also share a lot of social traits with ASD. Getting evaluated is always best though.

Sorry to hear things have been so rough for you. I agree that maybe you should try to talk to your doctor.

I noticed you said you would never do Strattera again. Do you mind if I ask why not? I just started on that....

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I would go for merit-based as well. Your university may also have some scholarships. If you feel you will need it, get in touch with disability services early. Good luck!

I have not outgrown it. I can hide it well enough to go to college, work with others, and get through my day but I make modifications and accommodations in my life, get some support, and people know I am different, especially socially. We can learn to adapt, but it never just goes away.

Sure it is. I've been on some crazy websites where people diagnosis shop and want to have everything. In some of those circles, mental illness is an asset. It's toxic. I'm not saying we should hide disabilities, but in these places I have found who think they are cool, like when drug users think dru...
