In the UK, 'professor' is a specific job title for certain senior academics. Most lecturers are Dr, Ms or Mr. The job has its good and bad points in terms of AS, but overall it's probably one of the better careers. I love it, on the whole. For a permanent job, you generally need a PhD or at least to...

I was classed as gifted at school, but only found out I'm Asperger's quite recently. For me, one experience sums up the difference between gifted NT and Aspie. When I was in junior school (aged about 8-11) the local authority organised activities each year for 'gifted children'. There were various o...

Oops! I haven't finished my CBT yet; I'm probably the first person not to get through it in a day. Ah well.

Congratulations, Roccoslife!

Law is a huge field, with different areas requiring very different skills. Some types of law require a lot of detailed analysis of documents and regulations, but not a great deal of interaction with clients; others are quite the opposite. Some involve being in court every day; while other lawyers wi...

I've signed up with temp agencies a few times. The first time, I was only looking for temporary work, which they got for me; the second time, my placement led to a permanent job. WhoKnowsWhy, they often only place you at first if you chase them up. Good times to do so are Friday late morning, when t...

It took me four attempts; like you, I was a reasonable driver outside the actual test. The first time, I failed by going through a red light leaving the test centre car park... On the second, I messed up the reversing around a corner; on the third, the only way of not committing the 'fault' w...

NYCStefano, I really don't see the hostility to AS that you describe. The reviewer actually focuses upon the perceived emotional manipulation of the film, and as part of that, the unlikeliness of adults' response to Oskar. The reference to his being "cosseted" has nothing to do with his AS but just ...

All the reviewer is saying is that some people would respond warmly to this child while others would not. Her point is not that the child ought not to have been born or anything like it, just that in real life he would not receive the almost universally positive responses shown in the film. I haven'...

The only cruise I've ever done was on the Nile. I spent a lot of time sitting on deck reading or taking photographs. The latter in particular can be a good way of not socialising while not looking anti-social!

fragment, I'm exactly the same as you about touch. I've read the restaurant research too, so it's not just an urban myth. Thankfully, it's less common in Britain so there's just one chain of restaurants I have to avoid! I spend a lot of time in France where social kissing is common. I can just about...

I am terrible at networking, so can't offer any magic solutions for that, but what has helped me enormously in my work is having mentors. Do you know or could you find one person in your field who could offer help, advice, even work opportunities? It may be easier than building a whole network yours...

When it comes to birthday CARDS however, I can't ever give the lovey-sensitive ones to people, even my own parents. I always do funny cards. I'm exactly the same about cards! Although I know my mum would love that kind of birthday card, I can never make myself do it. I don't have a problem with hel...
