I suppose that would make more sense if it was a matrilineal surname. The number five made it seem like they were specific ancestors though--like a given name that was passed down from mother to daughter. Apparently a lot of women in my grandmother's ancestry did something like that but I doubt that...

What are the options in terms of finding a solution? Aside from just leaving the forum, as I've said I've done that from time to time when I find it too exhausting.

My own assertiveness/over empathizing issues make it psychologically difficult to report people.

We're doing this again? I suppose we've had enough turnover since the last Genderwars ™ to fuel a new cycle, but it's still annoying. Note to whoever is modding this: I highly recommend allowing people to link to examples of what they consider to be sexist and/or misogynistic, as demanding that the...

So long as the actors are consenting to what they are doing then yes I would say that rape scenes in porn are fine. Just make sure you are getting porn from reputable sources.

I wouldn't expect that fear of violence would be a factor in most situations but men and women are socialized differently, with the result that women will tend to defer to men. I think if you're aware of it you can try to be more assertive and act with the confidence that men are to taught to act wi...

I don't get it either. It's pretty common to name people after their ancestors, whether feminism is an issue or not.

Sort of. When I was 10 (3,5 year before my first period) a 16 year old neighbor guy asked me if I want to see "what adults do in bed". I got curious (I heard my parents doing "it" almost every night behind a wall) so I agreed and followed him to some bushes. I don't remember wha...

I married one.

I think maturity levels really vary with the person. There are a lot of autistic people and we're all different. Sorry about your experience that fellow. I wouldn't expect that that kind of behavior is more common among autistics than the general population though.

I can't use them in my circumstances (vaginismus), but they seem like a good idea for many people. It'd be hard to deal with them in a public restroom, but it seems you can wear them for many hours at a time, so you don't need to worry about it in most cases. It always weirds me out when people cal...

I think it would be good to explain where you are coming from in terms of in-person social interaction. Let her know how to accommodate you to make social interaction easier for both of you. Do you know how she feels about you sexually? Obviously your ideal partner would be someone with a fairly hig...

I don't have an answer to your question but thought I should comment on the use of functioning labels. There is some movement to get away from that kind of language. Perhaps this article will be of interest. autisticadvocacy.org/2010/05/a-true-story-and-a-little-lesson-about-functioning-level/

I found my husband on OKcupid. I read his profile and immediately crushed on him because he was obviously very smart and sensitive and had values similar to my own. I love written language and I feel like it is easier to get to know a person through writing than through spoken language. I didn't kno...

I recently met this girl on online dating. I really like her, she is like me (diagnosis-wise), and she is the only girl I've been interested in to ever show any mutual interest. We met up a few days ago, and have gone out twice in 7 days. We text each other every single day, shes met my closest fri...

If she's shy like you she might really appreciate the gesture on your part of initiating the boyfriend/girlfriend status. And if she knows that you are shy too then it can be an especially meaningful gesture.

Best of luck to you both, you two sound adorable.

I think you should ask her out. She might say she isn't interested and if so then you can move on and ask someone else. But you won't know until you try. Keep your chin up and believe in yourself.

As the primary Mod that deals with L&D, I don't see "misogyny" so as much as I see frustrated, desperate, lonely men who come here to vent. And they're allowed to vent.....to a point. It's important to discern what is just depression and disappointment, and what is outright hostility....
