Do you feel like the character, Jerry, on Parks and Recreation? That's the only element of that sit com I don't think is funny. This happens to me every now and then, more as I get older. People (mostly family) just tune me out. It's hard because I have important things to say and when they don't he...

Learning not to care so much about what others think is easier said than done. I wish you the best of luck with that. I pretty much think it's impossible, because what others think does matter. You just need to find some kind of balance. ...just... It takes time so don't let yourself get discouraged...

It's comforting to know another "social" aspie exists! Thank you for being an earnest mom. With your mother-in-law, you are the usurper and therefore anything you have to say is suspect and untrustworthy. It's nothing personal, just something that's way too common in the world. If it wasn't your son...

I'd rather have marijuana than pharmaceuticals, at least it doesn't make me all f***d up just more calm and relaxed which helps me function. For instance I have a prescription for trazodone for anxiety and sleep, if I take it for anxiety then sure it reduces the anxiety symptoms but that's just bec...

Wow. At risk? Ok, I've been a part of the system for awhile and I can reason that "at risk" could refer to how the gay boy gets picked on by the jocks or outcast tough. But... we've all been aware of and fighting this for years. In my experience, teachers have been watching out for their students si...

Not sleeping is a decade's old problem for me. Over time, I've created a bed cave - basically a soft, sensory deprivation chamber. I can't imaging having to sleep with my grandma on a regular basis. I did once, on vacation when I was about 30 and that was enough for me, but maybe you're closer to yo...

Trying to be the perfect NT made me physically ill for a long time. It wasn't until I stopped wasting my resources trying to "fit in" that I started to see the light of wellness. I hope you don't waste your life wishing for something that doesn't exist. It can only bring you down. . I doubt trying ...

If you write better than you talk, then write. Write your memoir. You still have value unless you just give up. That would be easier, but how sad.

Have you ever thought that what people might find creepy about you is that you try to be normal? My problem isn't even that people actually find me creepy. My problem is that I'm scared of people finding me creepy. Entirely within my own head. Oh dear... well, stop it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

You've done a good job on selling yourself on your own worthlessness. It's obvious you've been helped a lot there. You are not ugly and I don't think you're as stupid as you've come to believe. Looking at your comprehensive list of faults, you seem to have an amazing understanding of yourself. You k...

Well, you could just move to a place like Southern California for awhile. Everyone is weird here. You'd fit right in. You could always move back home once you find a woman. Ok, lame. Have you ever thought that what people might find creepy about you is that you try to be normal? I've spent the bette...

I have epilepsy and can't tolerate any of the prescription drugs - they're just too strong. I take them and I can't think straight. A few of them had me drooling and slurring my speech. My neurologist suggested I try medical marijuana. That did the trick. The seizures stopped completely, and none sh...

Well, you have that hormone thing going on. The mom in me suggests you could give up drama - ugh! Shut up Mom! I have had extreme issues with my mind never shutting down. For years I took Ambien just to get through. Not a good combination with single motherhood but what was I to do? Then, my doctor ...

The best thing about finding out about my neurological differences is that I could finally grasp the concept that the problem isn't me. There's nothing wrong with me. My not fitting in with other people is their problem, and as a few people have discovered, their loss. I am a useful association. Yes...
