Parents should teach their children moral behaviour but this does not need to be associated with any religion. Thanks for sharing your views, TallyMan. Can you give an example of the type of morals you feel a parent should teach their child? Rather than reeling off a list, I believe it can be kept ...

My point: please, never, ever, EVER make your kids think that it is somehow "their fault", for any "reason" (religious or otherwise). That will not convert them--it will send them in the opposite direction. Furthermore, they will be left feeling that they are somehow "wrong" or "defective", when wh...

Or in other cases, the confidence is based upon personal experience, which doesn't mean anything to me. My personal experience tells me its all a bunch of malarkey. There is no logical reason for me to put someone else's personal experience over my personal experience. Cash, I want to say how glad ...

Thanks Begging Turtle. I know this is slightly taken out of context but it's at the essence of what you are saying. I think it's one of the wisest bits of advice any parent can hear.

Personally I get great assurance that faith is based on logic, facts and a proven track record and I know many Aspies who feel the same. Have you looked up the word 'faith' in a dictionary lately? I'll just put it right here for you: n: 1. strong or unshakeable belief in something, esp without proo...

someing_, 1. Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. Luke is not even claiming to be an eye witness. He is saying he is putting in writin...

Thank you all for the time you have spent on your comments and I really like how respectful people have been of others views even when they disagree. We have deviated a little from the original topic and as interesting as it has been debating the nature of faith and whether or not parents should or ...

The thing about any belief system is that when someone truly believes it, they feel that if others followed their views too then the world would be a better place. A 'religious parent' firmly believes that their child is best served if the child follows their beliefs. A 'non religious parent' firml...

^agree with cash. I think a religious parent should just explain their beliefs and why they believe it and leave it at that, make it clear it is a personal choice and that other people should be free to believe what they want free from judgement. When it comes to morals these do not need to be conn...

Once I found this out, and realized that purely from a historical point of view, what I read in the Old and New Testament really happened, or, at the very least, the authors of the books believed they happened, then my trust in the Bible deepened. The thing that opened my eyes as a child was discov...

Raising an aspie with a Christian moral compass? No problem. Aspies like rules by and large so that should be fine. If you want to actually instill the theology into the child it could well be a doomed enterprise insofar as some aspie kids wont be able to make the inductive leaps of faith required ...

If you are not a follower of Jesus, are there any things that those who profess the Christian faith have done or said that has helped or hindered your raising of an ASD child? Any input welcome! Appeals to emotion will not work, if you 'prove' there is a Abrahamic God, you better provide good cogen...
