There's a charming 1973 movie called Horror Express starring Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Telly Savalas. It's basically "The Thing" on a train (the Trans Siberian Express). Almost the whole movie takes place on the train. The exterior shots are of an elaborate model that was built fo...

While I acknowledge that most of the recent mainstream horror movies (the ones that rely on jump scares) have been pretty uninteresting, if you're prepared to look further afield- at slightly arty and foregin movies- I think horror cinema is going through a bit of a golden period. Some examples (big...

Frank Sidebottom (with Little Frank...)

Wonderful.

You know he was. He really was.

Been watching some episodes of Hammer House of Horror:
"The Silent Scream", "The House That Bled to Death" and "The Two Faces of Evil".
All quite good old-fashioned fun.

Just rewatched the 1978 Dawn of the Dead on the new Second Sight 4K restoration. It still packs a punch and is pretty much the only zombie movie you need- The Walking Dead dragged the same shtick out over a thousand hours (or however long it lasted).

His House (Netflix). Superb horror debut by Remi Weekes. It reminded me of Under the Shadow, and that can only be a good thing.

You mention you already have 00 gauge trains. What sort do you have? 00 gauge locos can be converted to 7mm narrow gauge if one wants to do a little modelling. Little 4 wheel 0-4-0's are the easiest to convert. The rolling stock I have is pretty modern Hornby and Bachmann Branchline stuff, some ste...

Erm - about 21  I was given a bike when I was about 7 and really struggled with it without the training wheels on. To be fair we didn't have a garden or yard where I could practice. My friends at the time soon got the hang of it and progressed to bikes with gears which were beyond me at the ti...

I would absolutely love a model railway. I've always wanted one and it is my number one fantasy purchase if I won the lottery. I think a continuous run layout would be more fun. The problem is space. I'm only in a small flat and that's not likely to change. I do have some locos and rolling stock (oo...

Loved seeing the steam lorries posted above- I will have to do a bit of research. A steam lorry featured prominantly in the Disney movie "One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing" Don't think we'll being seeing much of that film any more - it's rather racist...

What is the blue rail era ? This was the period from 1967 to 1982 when British railways were nationalised as, er, British Rail and all locomotives were painted a blue-grey colour. Coaches were in the same rail blue with a grey section at window height. I think this was viewed as a pretty boring liv...

Saint Maud - superb (9/10)
The Eyes of My Mother - pretty good (7/10)

Both fairly slow, fairly arty and quite downbeat. Both deal with the subject of intense loneliness.

Have something more fun lined up for later - The Monster Squad :)

I like trains. My favourite eras as Southern Railway steam (the Bluebell Railway is our local preserved railway and has quite a few) and British Rail Green and Blue diesel eras. The latter is the era I grew up in.

Hi Everyone.

I used to post here a couple of years ago but then I rather drifted away.

I've become rather isolated because of the lockdown so I'm making myself reach out to people again. I'll start posting again and see what happens.

Hope to see you around.

Take care all.
