I began "tuning in" about 1935 but didn't get a license until 1952 as W1WWE.
I never hear anybody on any band here (S. New Zealand). |

"Withhold" is about the best I can come up with.
capio = to take
"mitziehen" would have to be the German equivalent, but that's not used much . . . so?? |

I saved the first 2-3 letters of this discussion to think more about them on a rainy Sunday -- today! I see that another page and more have been added.
I do wish that I had known about Asperger's 60-65 years ago. What a difference knowing would have made over the rest of my long life. |

I take melatonin for a couple of weeks or so -- until it stops working. Then I go off it and manage to sleep pretty well -- for a while. Thereupon I go on it again, repeating the cycle.
It's not a perfect amswer, but it helps. |

Queenstown here. Born USA but lived in Dunedin for 27 years and now 11 years in Qtown.
Not diagnosed. The first psych I went to hardly knew what Asperger's was, so I plan to start again with another one before giving up on that project. |

| About your child who's having a problem learning to read: My grandson, now almost 11, had such a problem also (at the age of 6, or so). His parents discovered that he was so far-sighted that he couldn't see the letters and numbers clearly. With glasses his reading performance sky-rocketed to the ext... |

| I ran for 37 years -- didn't begin until I was almost 40 (after a scary brush with polio). Running is supposed to be good for bones, but I had to stop because I kept breaking vertebrae (at about the age of 75). I ran 15 full marathons but VERY RARELY won any prize because I'm not "athletically endow... |

I heard indirectly that the reason the psych didn't think I had Asperger's was that I wasn't flopping my arms around.
I've decided to go to another psych (when I work up my courage) who just might use a sensible set of criteria. |

Indirectly, from my ex-wife: I'm not surprised.
From my children: We've known that all along.
And one of them adds: Consider anxiety issues also. (Her daughter has anxiety problems.)
All in all: general acceptance and help |

I plan to look further into that subject. |

Willard wrote: I believe maverick became a name after its general usage meaning rogue or loner. Perhaps due to the James Garner television show.
It comes from the family name of a South Texas rancher who let his unbranded cattle run loose. His son (or grandson) was a congressman from Texas. |

NOT ONLY THAT, BUT SINCE IT'S OBVIOUSLY GENETIC, YOU MAY HAVE INHERITED IT FROM HER. |

Ditto.
And it's hell when you have to call the help desk for the internet connection -- most of the time you get a person at the other end whose first language isn't English (and whose second language doesn't seem to be English either). |

| I always wanted a wife and family. Almost sixty years ago (in 1949) my wife and I were married; we had 5 children and now have 9 grandchildren. (No more g-children likely!) We were divorced almost 35 years ago after about 25 years of marriage. Neither of us has remarried. Quite some time ago my ex-w... |
