Crumbs, I haven't posted anything on here for quite some time, but this thread sucked me in. Tyri0n Firstly, check out "Born on a Blue Day", the autobiography of Daniel Tammet. There is a nice example of someone clearly AS who moved abroad for several years on a whim. Secondly, Personality disorders...

Caffeine makes me moderately more alert and switched on. Nothing as drastic as what you describe though. I found cutting out caffeine after long term excessive use had a far greater impact than introducing caffeine in the first place. I became really slow, foggy and depressed for quite a while (mont...

I have anxiety, I first recognised it around 12 years ago, when it became a major problem. I still have anxiety, but CBT and some relaxation methods have reduced the severity somewhat and most importantly I can now recognise when I'm anxious.

Register a .CO.UK, EU law means that private citizens have data protection rights. So, you can have a .CO.UK registrant information hidden. It'll only show your name.

I'm not diagnosed AS, but it's pretty probable. I do have an ADHD-PI diagnosis. I manage 6 members of staff. I'm hopelessly disorganised, particularly with paperwork. I really struggle with keeping on top of individual team members performance and handling confrontation, emotions and motivation. I d...

DLA is a pretty low amount of money compared to many other benefits. It's also the only benefit that someone working with a disability is able to claim. £51.85. gets you about 1 hour of care a day. Someone who is earning £14K a year, would be paying £54.74 in Tax/NI/PAYE. So even at this level it's ...

You said his issues have become far worse over the past year, with him being diagnosed 1.5 years ago and that you've been together for 2. Was he acting this way when you started this relationship?

Why would you announce it prior to a diagnosis?

Is it me or do people that are independent and have AS would require no support and therefor never meet the DSM-V criteria? And how does support/severity level get assessed? It seems like a pretty ambiguous system to me. From DSM IV: (III) The disturbance causes clinically significant impairments i...

However the HR woman asked me to take a personal day instead and investigate the incident and she would get back to me by the end of the day if another position could be made available. I do not expect much to come of it, but it would be nice if I could stay with the compa... |

Ideally they want to get an opinion from someone who knew you as a child. This is just to meet the diagnostic criteria for lifelong impairment. They often will do a written or telephone interview, so perhaps that could be done with your estranged family, you don't have to be involved. I suspect this...

This is a tough question. The experts all seem to insist that early intervention leads to strong improvements. Personally I'm not that convinced that AS can be reliably diagnosed in under 8s. I guess a lot depends on your parents and your neighbourhood. My parents let me live in my own world and sup...

I think what defines a special interest is what happens when you are deprived from it. Everyone has interests, but most people don't get too upset if they have to skip them for a time.

Rather than giving us behaviours, why don't you tell us a little about yourself and your life.. Are you working, in school, in a relationship, living at home? These points give us more information and are far more relevant to a continued adult diagnosis than your perceived social abilities. Jason.

Comparing a siren with a sexual assault is not a great analogy.
Perhaps it's safer to compare it with stubbing your toe? Infrequent, but extremely painful.

Yes and No. I really struggle with being shown how to do something. I need to experiment alone and go through a trial and error phase, before I truly get something. If I am interested, I can devote all my spare time to it and become pretty competent at it within a short space of time. I probably put...
